Chapter 13: Crisis of the Blood Soul, Seeking the Truth
Li Hongjun and his companions had successfully thwarted the Shadow Alliance’s attempt to break the ancient seal upon the evil beast, but everyone knew the enemy would not retreat so easily. Above the city of Ruili, it seemed as though a heavy, oppressive cloud still hung, and disaster could erupt again at any moment.
“Brother Li, this Shadow Alliance is like a stubborn leech—we just can’t shake them off!” Iron Tiger grumbled, wiping the blood from his great blade with a sour expression.
Monkey grinned and chimed in, “Hey, Iron Tiger, that just means we’re strong! We’ve made them so furious they can’t let us go!”
Li Hongjun shot Monkey a glare. “Enough. This isn’t the time for jokes. The Shadow Alliance has suffered heavy losses, so they’ll come back even more dangerous next time. We must quickly devise a countermeasure.”
The mysterious woman frowned, her gaze landing on the shattered black disk on the ground. “The Shadow Alliance’s tricks are endless, and they seem to understand more and more about the seal. We have to accelerate our investigation into the secret of the Blood Soul Stone. It might just be the key to unraveling all these mysteries.”
The white-haired elder nodded. “You’re absolutely right, miss. My family has safeguarded the secret of the seal for generations, but even we know little about the Blood Soul Stone. It seems we need to seek answers elsewhere.”
“Where to? Elder, don’t keep us guessing!” Bear pressed anxiously.
The old man smiled faintly. “In the far north lies an ancient ruin encased in ice and snow, known as the Chill Abyss. Legend holds that it conceals many secrets from the distant past—perhaps even clues related to the Blood Soul Stone.”
Li Hongjun’s eyes lit up. “What are we waiting for? Let’s set out at once!”
“Don’t be hasty. The Chill Abyss is not easily reached. The road is long, the environment harsh, and the ruins are guarded by powerful beasts and deadly wards. We must make thorough preparations.” The elder cautioned.
Thus, the group began to busily gather supplies for the journey to the Chill Abyss: treasures to ward off the cold, healing elixirs, and protective talismans of all sorts.
After several days, Li Hongjun, Iron Tiger, Bear, Monkey, Lin Yu, the mysterious woman, and the white-haired elder set off on their quest. Along the way, they braved the elements and slept under the open sky, enduring much before finally reaching the far north. Here, snow and ice blanketed the world, frigid winds howled, and the cold was so intense that ordinary people would not have survived a moment.
“This place is so cold, I feel like my nose is about to freeze off!” Bear complained, rubbing his red, frozen hands together.
Li Hongjun channeled his spiritual power and formed a warm shield around the group to fend off the cold. “Stay close, everyone, and watch for danger.”
The group pressed on along a snowy path when suddenly, a massive snow bear burst from a drift nearby. Its fur was pure white, its eyes blood-red, and it emanated a powerful aura.
“Well, looks like trouble’s found us!” Iron Tiger brandished his great blade, itching for action.
“Don’t rush in—the snow bear is no pushover; we mustn’t underestimate it.” Li Hongjun called out, stopping Iron Tiger.
The bear roared and lunged, its enormous paw sweeping toward them with a biting wind. Li Hongjun summoned the “Stellar Shield” to block the blow, while Monkey darted behind the beast, unleashing the “Monkey’s Shadowless Knives,” blades raining like hail upon the bear.
Sensing the attack at its back, the snow bear turned, swatting the daggers aside. Lin Yu responded with the “Breeze Mirage Swordplay,” his blade flashing as it pierced toward the beast. Bear was not to be outdone, unleashing the “Bear’s World-Dominating Fist,” a colossal shadowy fist smashing toward the snow bear.
But the bear’s hide was thick and tough; ordinary attacks barely fazed it. The mysterious woman frowned. “This isn’t working—its defenses are too strong.”
The white-haired elder’s eyes brightened. “I recall that its eyes are particularly vulnerable. Let’s focus our attacks there.”
At his suggestion, the group shifted their aim. Li Hongjun unleashed the “Stellar Burst Fist,” the force whistling toward the bear’s eyes. Iron Tiger sent a sweeping arc of blade-light with the “Tiger’s Heaven-Sundering Slash.” Lin Yu’s “Breeze Sky-Rending Sword” shot a bolt of green energy toward the bear’s eyes.
Under their combined assault, one of the snow bear’s eyes was struck. With a pained howl, it spun madly, its paws thrashing and snow swirling high into the air.
“Now’s our chance—keep attacking!” Li Hongjun shouted.
With renewed vigor, the group unleashed their might, and at last, the snow bear collapsed, dissolving into a flurry of snowflakes.
“Whew, glad that brute’s dealt with,” Iron Tiger said, wiping sweat from his brow.
They pressed onward, finally arriving at the entrance to the Chill Abyss. The gateway was sealed by a thick layer of ice, runes of mystery etched across its surface.
“These runes look complicated. How do we get in?” Monkey scratched his head, puzzled.
The white-haired elder stepped forward and inspected the runes closely. “These are ancient wards, requiring a specific spiritual resonance to unlock. Let me try.”
He began to channel his power, weaving intricate signs with his hands, sending waves of spiritual energy toward the runes. They flickered with light, and slowly, the ice melted away, revealing a pitch-black tunnel.
“It worked! But be careful—more dangers may lurk inside,” he warned.
Cautiously, they entered. A chilling aura pervaded the tunnel, strange statues lining the walls. Suddenly, the statues’ eyes glowed menacingly—they sprang to life, lunging at the group.
“These statues can move?!” Bear exclaimed in shock.
Li Hongjun invoked the “Cosmic Stellar Art,” stars swirling around him as he charged into the fray, shattering statues wherever he passed. Iron Tiger swept his blade in the “Tiger’s Wrath—Legion Cleaver,” slicing through the oncoming statues. Bear thundered forth with “Bear’s Stomp Across Mountains,” his massive form smashing the statues to pieces.
Monkey, nimble and swift, darted among the statues, his daggers striking their vital points with uncanny precision. Lin Yu unleashed the “Breeze Sword Shadow Kill,” a flurry of sword images driving the statues back. The mysterious woman summoned a “Dark Storm,” a black tempest reducing statues to dust. The old man pressed down with “Heaven and Earth Seal,” crushing groups of statues beneath its weight.
Together, they swiftly destroyed the horde and ventured deeper, arriving in a vast stone chamber. At its center stood a pedestal, upon which rested an ancient tome, glowing with blue light.
“This book looks extraordinary—perhaps it holds the clues we seek,” Li Hongjun said.
As he approached, a low, guttural growl rumbled from the darkness. Emerging from the shadows was a giant wolf bathed in blue light, its eyes blazing with azure fire, fixed on the group with wariness and hostility.
“What is that? It looks even tougher than the snow bear!” Iron Tiger gripped his blade tightly.
With a furious snarl, the wolf flashed forward, jaws gaping as it lunged for Iron Tiger. He barely managed to block with his blade; sparks flew as metal met monstrous teeth, the impact numbing his arms and forcing him back.
“I’ll help you, brother!” Bear roared, sending a massive fist toward the wolf. The beast dodged nimbly, slashing Bear’s side with razor claws, leaving bloody furrows.
“Bear!” Li Hongjun cried, launching the “Stellar Burst Fist” at the wolf. The force howled through the air, threatening to rend the chamber itself. Sensing danger, the wolf abandoned Bear and whirled to defend against Li Hongjun.
Lin Yu leapt forth, blade glowing with the “Breeze Mirage Swordplay,” his strikes swirling like a tempest. Monkey hurled his shadowy daggers with lightning speed. The mysterious woman chanted the “Dark Bone-Eroding Curse,” black script flying at the wolf. The elder unleashed the “Cosmic Rift Palm,” a thunderous force crashing down.
The wolf was formidable—though wounded, none of their attacks proved fatal. With a furious howl, it erupted with blue light and conjured the “Froststorm,” a raging wind of icy blue energy sweeping through the chamber, freezing the ground and cracking the walls.
“This storm is too strong!” Li Hongjun shouted.
Everyone hastened to defend themselves. Li Hongjun created a “Stellar Shield,” its sparkling light sheltering the group. Iron Tiger summoned the “Iron Wall Guard,” Bear the “Bear’s Bastion,” their protections merging into a robust defense. Lin Yu’s “Breeze Sword Array” encircled them, the mysterious woman’s “Shadow Veil” overlapped the others, and the elder’s “Cosmic Primordial Barrier” enveloped them all.
The storm hammered their shields, which shuddered and threatened to give way.
“We can’t hold out like this. We need a way to defeat it!” Li Hongjun called.
At that moment, Monkey’s eyes lit up. “Brother Li, I noticed whenever the wolf uses its powerful magic, the blue light gathers at its belly—maybe that’s its weakness!”
Li Hongjun’s heart leapt. “Listen up—while I, the lady, and the elder distract it, Iron Tiger, Bear, Lin Yu, and Monkey, you four strike its belly when the chance comes!”
They nodded. Li Hongjun invoked the “Cosmic Stellar Art,” stars orbiting him as he leapt to the attack, casting powerful spells to draw the wolf’s attention. The mysterious woman sent a storm of darkness swirling at the beast, while the old man pressed down with his mighty seal.
The wolf turned, enraged, and lunged at them. At that instant, Iron Tiger unleashed the “Tiger’s Heaven-Sundering Slash” at its belly; Bear followed with the “Bear’s Earth-Rending Fist”; Lin Yu struck with his “Breeze Sky-Rending Sword”; Monkey fired off a “Monkey’s Star-Shattering Finger,” a concentrated bolt of spiritual power.
With a pained howl, the wolf’s belly was struck, its blue light dimming. Seizing the opportunity, Li Hongjun released his ultimate move—the “Blood Soul Stellar Break,” a beam of dark and stellar power blasting into the wolf.
The beast, battered by their combined might, finally collapsed, its form dissolving into blue light.
“Whew, at last, it’s over,” Li Hongjun sighed in relief.
They gathered around the pedestal. Li Hongjun carefully picked up the glowing tome. As he did, a cool sensation surged through him, clearing his mind.
He opened the book. Within, it revealed secrets of the Blood Soul Stone. It was not merely a key to breaking the ancient evil beast’s seal, but possibly the means to control the beast itself. With mastery over the Blood Soul Stone’s true power, one could not only prevent the beast’s emergence but perhaps even harness its strength against the Shadow Alliance.
“I never imagined the Blood Soul Stone’s secret ran so deep,” Li Hongjun murmured.
The mysterious woman frowned. “But to truly master its power is easier said than done. If the Shadow Alliance gets there first, it will be disastrous.”
The white-haired elder agreed. “Indeed. We must accelerate our research. And we must beware—the Shadow Alliance may also be seeking the truth behind the stone.”
At that moment, a commotion erupted outside the cave; a large group was fast approaching.
“Could it be the Shadow Alliance?” Iron Tiger gripped his weapon nervously.
Li Hongjun’s face hardened. “Prepare for battle! No one must take the tome or the Blood Soul Stone from us!”
They formed up, watching the entrance. Soon, a crowd of men in black uniforms appeared, led by a sullen-faced middle-aged man. He spotted Li Hongjun and his companions, a cold smile on his lips.
“Li Hongjun, so you really did find this place. Hand over the tome and the Blood Soul Stone, and I’ll spare your lives,” he declared arrogantly.
Li Hongjun snorted. “You think you can just take them from us? Dream on! If you have the guts, come and try!”
The man’s face darkened. “So be it. Kill them all—take back the tome and the Blood Soul Stone!”
The men in black surged forward like a tide. Li Hongjun and his companions met them head-on, and in the echoing cavern, a fierce and desperate battle erupted once more...
What will be the outcome of this battle? Can Li Hongjun and his friends safeguard the tome and the Blood Soul Stone? Will they unravel the secret of the Blood Soul Stone and finally resolve the crisis threatening Ruili? All these questions remain—stay tuned for the next chapter.
