Chapter 11: Breaking the Shadow Alliance
Li Hongjun gripped the paper slip sent by Lin Yu tightly, his gaze icy as he paced back and forth, rapidly considering his next moves. He knew full well that since the Shadow Alliance had discovered the information leak, they would accelerate their plans and resort to even more ruthless methods.
“Iron Tiger, Mighty Bear, Agile Monkey—gather trustworthy men at once. Strengthen the defenses of the mansion, and set covert sentries at every key road in Ruili City. Keep a close watch on the Shadow Alliance’s movements.” As he gave his orders, Li Hongjun’s mind raced.
Iron Tiger cracked his knuckles eagerly. “Don’t worry, Brother Li! We’ll make the defenses impenetrable. If one Shadow Alliance member comes, we’ll kill one; if two come, we’ll kill them both!”
Mighty Bear rumbled in agreement, “Yes, let them know we’re not to be trifled with!”
Agile Monkey blinked his eyes, “Brother Li, I think defense isn’t enough. We need to strike first and disrupt their plans.”
Li Hongjun nodded. “Agile Monkey is right. We can’t just sit and take blows. But before we move, we must figure out how the Shadow Alliance intends to use the Blood Soul Stone to wreak havoc in Ruili City.”
At that moment, Ma Zhentian and Elder Huo arrived hurriedly with the Blood Soul Stone. Ma Zhentian handed it to Li Hongjun. “Brother Li, though we have the Blood Soul Stone, the Shadow Alliance won’t let this go. What’s your plan now?”
Li Hongjun took the stone, feeling its dark power, and frowned deeply. “Elder, I want to study this stone first, see if I can find clues to break the Shadow Alliance’s plot. Also, we need a way to help Lin Yu—he’s likely in grave danger inside the Shadow Alliance.”
Elder Huo stroked his chin. “Little Li, the Shadow Alliance is a tangled web; helping Lin Yu won’t be easy. But we can’t just watch him fall into peril.”
As they discussed, a sentry rushed in. “Bad news! A large group of Shadow Alliance experts is approaching the city from outside Ruili!”
Li Hongjun’s face changed. “They’re moving fast! The Shadow Alliance can’t wait any longer. Everyone, prepare for battle!”
The group sprang into action. Li Hongjun handed the Blood Soul Stone to Mighty Bear. “Mighty Bear, find a safe place to hide the Blood Soul Stone. Don’t let it fall into the Shadow Alliance’s hands.”
Mighty Bear thumped his chest. “Rest assured, Brother Li. I’ll protect it with my life!”
Iron Tiger swung his broadsword. “I’ll clear the way up front. Let’s see if those Shadow Alliance scoundrels dare to charge!”
Agile Monkey drew a handful of small throwing knives from his coat. “I’ll ambush them from the shadows. Hit them where they least expect it!”
Li Hongjun, Ma Zhentian, Elder Huo, and others took up command in the rear, preparing for the Shadow Alliance’s assault.
Soon, the Shadow Alliance troops appeared before them. Leading the charge was a grim-faced middle-aged man in a black robe, wielding a black magic staff, emanating a powerful aura.
“Li Hongjun, you’ve ruined the Shadow Alliance’s plans. Today is your death day!” the man snarled, waving his staff menacingly.
Li Hongjun stepped forward, fearless. “You think you can take my life? Foolish! If you have the guts, come and try!”
The middle-aged man sneered. “Hmph, still stubborn at the brink of death. Attack! Kill them and reclaim the Blood Soul Stone!”
The Shadow Alliance surged forward like a tide, and Li Hongjun’s side engaged them fiercely. Iron Tiger, with his immense strength, swung his blade, cutting down several Shadow Alliance members in a flash. Mighty Bear, leveraging his powerful physique, crashed through their ranks, scattering their formation. Agile Monkey darted across the battlefield like a phantom, his knives striking with deadly accuracy.
Yet the Shadow Alliance had sent numerous skilled fighters, coordinating well, gradually encircling Li Hongjun’s group.
“Brother Li, this won’t do—their numbers are overwhelming!” Ma Zhentian shouted anxiously while casting defensive spells.
Li Hongjun channeled his spiritual power, unleashing the “Stellar Exploding Fist.” The roaring force scattered the Shadow Alliance members around him. “Hold your ground! Don’t panic! We’ll focus our strength and break their encirclement!”
As the battle raged, the sky suddenly darkened with ominous clouds. A black lightning bolt split the heavens, striking the battlefield. Everyone looked up to see an elderly man in black robes floating above, holding a bead that glowed with sinister light.
“That’s the Grand Elder of the Shadow Alliance—his power is unfathomable!” Elder Huo’s face turned pale.
The old man sneered, “Li Hongjun, none of you will escape today!” With those words, he hurled the bead, unleashing a powerful wave of dark energy that pressed down on the group.
Li Hongjun sensed the terrifying force and cried, “Everyone, use your strongest defenses!”
Each person cast their defensive spells, forming a multicolored shield against the onslaught. However, the Grand Elder’s attack was so fierce that the shield trembled, on the verge of shattering.
“This old fiend’s power is overwhelming—what do we do now?” Iron Tiger gritted his teeth, struggling to maintain the defense.
Just then, Li Hongjun thought of the Blood Soul Stone. A spark of inspiration struck him, and he shouted, “Mighty Bear, give me the Blood Soul Stone!”
Mighty Bear hesitated but handed it over. Li Hongjun took the stone, channeling all his spiritual power, attempting to merge its energy with his own.
“Li Hongjun, what are you doing? Don’t waste your strength—you’re all doomed today!” the Grand Elder scoffed, intensifying the dark energy.
---
Li Hongjun ignored the old man’s taunts, focusing intently on drawing out the Blood Soul Stone’s power. At last, at a critical moment, he succeeded, fusing the stone’s energy with his own and unleashing the “Blood Soul Stellar Break.”
A radiant beam, imbued with both star power and darkness, shot skyward, clashing with the Grand Elder’s force. With a deafening roar, the shockwave sent Shadow Alliance members sprawling.
The Grand Elder staggered, his expression shifting. “I didn’t expect you to merge the Blood Soul Stone’s power—impressive. But it’s still not enough!”
He cast another powerful spell. The clouds churned, and countless black tendrils snaked down toward the group.
Li Hongjun watched the looming tendrils, feeling a pang of dread. Suddenly, a flash of green light cut through the battlefield as Lin Yu appeared.
“Master Li, I’m here to help!” Lin Yu wielded a green longsword, unleashing the “Phantom Breeze Sword Technique,” severing the black tendrils.
“Lin Yu, why did you return? It’s too dangerous!” Li Hongjun shouted, fending off the old man’s attacks.
Lin Yu parried as he spoke, “Master Li, I learned the Shadow Alliance had mobilized their entire force to annihilate us, so I escaped and came to aid you.”
With Lin Yu’s arrival, the pressure on Li Hongjun’s group eased somewhat, but the Grand Elder’s strength remained overwhelming.
“This can’t go on—we must find a way to defeat him, or Ruili City is doomed!” Ma Zhentian called out.
Li Hongjun eyed the Grand Elder, a bold plan forming in his mind. He said to Lin Yu, “You’re skilled in tracking and disguise—circle behind the Grand Elder. When I draw his attention, strike his vital point.”
Lin Yu nodded, “Trust me, Master Li—I won’t let you down!”
He vanished in a flash, while Li Hongjun unleashed an array of powerful spells, attacking the Grand Elder and diverting his focus.
“Old villain, taste my ‘Stellar Heaven-Blaze!’” Li Hongjun formed seals, sending a massive stellar fireball at the Grand Elder.
The old man snorted, “Petty tricks!” He raised his staff, summoning a dark barrier to deflect the fireball.
As the Grand Elder concentrated on Li Hongjun, Lin Yu appeared behind him, deploying the “Phantom Breeze Death Strike.” His green sword, wreathed in fierce energy, pierced the Grand Elder’s back.
The old man sensed the attack too late; the sword struck home, and he staggered forward with a muffled groan.
“Now! Everyone, attack together!” Li Hongjun shouted.
Each unleashed their strongest skills: Iron Tiger’s “Tiger Earth-Shatter Slash” sent his blade crashing down; Mighty Bear’s “Bear Dominates the World Punch” hurled a massive fist; Agile Monkey’s “Monkey Shadow Flying Knives” rained blades upon him; Ma Zhentian’s “Universe Palm” slammed with force; Elder Huo’s “Sky-Splitting Spear” fired deadly spear lights.
Under their combined assault, the Grand Elder finally succumbed, blood gushing as he collapsed.
“Whew, finally dealt with that old bastard!” Iron Tiger wiped sweat from his brow.
Li Hongjun remained vigilant, “Don’t let your guard down—the rest of the Shadow Alliance are not finished yet.”
Indeed, the Alliance members panicked at their elder’s death but soon regrouped, launching even more frenzied attacks.
“Fight them!” Li Hongjun led the charge, rallying his group.
The battlefield echoed with shouts and slaughter, both sides locked in a brutal struggle. Though Li Hongjun’s side fought valiantly, the Shadow Alliance’s numbers and skill kept the outcome uncertain.
Just then, crowds surged onto Ruili City’s streets—the ordinary citizens, armed with whatever they could find, joined the battle.
“We can’t let the Shadow Alliance destroy our home!” one shouted.
“Yes, fight them!” others responded.
As the battle began, the citizens had learned of the Shadow Alliance’s attack and, determined to defend their city, spontaneously joined the fray.
With the people’s support, Li Hongjun’s side grew stronger. Together, they forced the Shadow Alliance to retreat, breaking their ranks.
“After them! Don’t let them escape!” Li Hongjun shouted.
They pursued, routing the Shadow Alliance, who fled Ruili City in disgrace, utterly defeated.
“Finally, we’ve driven the Shadow Alliance away,” Li Hongjun said, surveying the ruined battlefield with relief.
---
Ma Zhentian came over, patting Li Hongjun’s shoulder. “Brother Li, thanks to you and everyone’s efforts, Ruili City is safe.”
Li Hongjun smiled. “It’s everyone’s achievement. The citizens of Ruili deserve credit too.”
Yet Li Hongjun knew the Shadow Alliance, though beaten, would not give up so easily. More daunting challenges awaited. Moreover, the Blood Soul Stone, though temporarily secured, still harbored dangerous power.
“Master Li, what should we do next? How should we deal with the Blood Soul Stone?” Lin Yu asked.
Li Hongjun pondered. “The Blood Soul Stone’s dark power is too strong. It cannot be destroyed recklessly, lest it cause greater disaster. I’ll seal it and store it somewhere safe. We must also strengthen our defenses in case the Shadow Alliance returns.”
Everyone agreed.
As they began tending the wounded and cleaning up the battlefield, news arrived—at a hidden location in Ruili City, a mysterious dark aura had appeared, seemingly connected to the Blood Soul Stone.
“Could there be another lurking threat?” Li Hongjun’s brow furrowed, an ill omen rising in his heart.
“Brother Li, what should we do? Should we go investigate?” Iron Tiger asked.
Li Hongjun took a deep breath. “Let’s go. Whatever it is, we must uncover the truth. Ruili City must not fall into danger again.”
Li Hongjun led Iron Tiger, Mighty Bear, Agile Monkey, Lin Yu, and others toward the place radiating the mysterious darkness.
They arrived at an abandoned manor, the source of the aura. The gate was tightly shut, an eerie atmosphere hanging about.
“This place gives me the creeps. Be careful, everyone,” Li Hongjun whispered.
They entered cautiously. Inside, wild weeds choked the yard, the buildings in ruin. The darkness grew heavier, oppressive.
Suddenly, a black crow flew overhead, cawing, shattering the silence.
“That crow feels sinister, too,” Agile Monkey muttered.
They pressed on, reaching a dilapidated room—the darkness emanated from within.
Li Hongjun slowly pushed the door open. Black mist filled the interior, obscuring all sight.
“Careful, everyone. This mist may be dangerous.” Li Hongjun summoned a shield of spiritual energy to protect the group.
Just then, a shadowy figure emerged from the mist, gradually taking shape—a woman in black robes.
Her face was stunningly beautiful, but her eyes were cold, radiating an aura of intimidation.
“You shouldn’t have come here,” she said icily.
“Who are you? Why are you here? What’s your connection to this dark aura?” Li Hongjun asked warily.
She smirked. “My identity doesn’t matter. The Blood Soul Stone you possess is the key to unlocking a certain seal. If you wish to avoid disaster, hand it over.”
“Hmph, you want us to hand over the Blood Soul Stone? Not so easily! What’s your real scheme?” Iron Tiger barked.
A flicker of murderous intent flashed in her eyes. “In that case, don’t blame me for being ruthless!” She formed seals with her hands, unleashing a black beam at the group.
Li Hongjun quickly led them to dodge; the black light struck the wall, instantly reducing it to dust.
“This woman is powerful—everyone, be careful!” Li Hongjun warned.
They quickly formed ranks, preparing to battle her. Yet the mysterious woman’s strength was unfathomable. Could Li Hongjun and his companions defeat her? What new crisis would the Blood Soul Stone trigger? What fate awaited Ruili City?
