Chapter 45: Sharing a Bed So Soon?
Witnessing this scene, the members of the Wei family were all dumbfounded. The entire villa fell into a silence so profound that one could hear a pin drop. It was only after a long while that a gasp shattered the stillness.
“How... how is this possible?”
Wei Changtian swallowed nervously; recalling his earlier disdain for Chu Tian, his heart trembled. He had actually thought Chu Tian was a liability to the Wei family and had even rebuked him impatiently. If Chu Tian bore a grudge for his earlier disrespect, then even dying ten times over would not be enough to atone.
“You unfilial son, hurry and apologize to Mr. Chu!” Wei Yuansheng scolded. No matter how disappointing Wei Changtian was, he was still his son; how could he stand by and watch him make such a grave mistake?
“Mr. Chu, it was my shortsightedness and impatience that made me speak wrongly. Please forgive me,” Wei Changtian hurriedly pleaded.
However, Chu Tian paid him no mind, his gaze instead falling upon a corner of the villa.
“Stop pretending to be dead, or I’ll make sure you become a real corpse!” Chu Tian suddenly spoke, his words enigmatic.
Everyone exchanged confused glances, unable to fathom his meaning.
“Chu Tian, what are you saying? My father is apologizing to you,” Wei Qingqiu frowned, a hint of displeasure in her voice.
Chu Tian chuckled lightly, his gaze unwavering from the villa’s corner. At that moment, Su Dingguo’s corpse responded. The next second, Su Dingguo climbed up from the floor, brushed the dust from his clothes, and straightened his disheveled attire.
“Has he come back from the dead?” Wei Changtian’s expression changed, stunned on the spot. Even a Grandmaster of the Internal Realm could not return from death; Su Dingguo had clearly been slain by Xiao Feng, so how was he standing now? Apart from resurrection, he could think of no other explanation.
“Greetings, Master Chu!” Su Dingguo bowed deeply, his demeanor exceedingly humble. Moments ago, he had pressured Chu Tian for his seat, but now he had completely lowered himself—a stark contrast to his previous attitude.
Chu Tian remained composed, as if unsurprised by it all.
“Mr. Chu, what exactly is happening?” Wei Yuansheng asked hesitantly, though he realized Su Dingguo was not resurrected but had been feigning death all along.
“He carried a life-preserving talisman that not only blocked the fatal blow but also induced a state of false death,” Chu Tian explained with a slight laugh, exposing Su Dingguo’s trick. “He pretended to be a corpse simply to deceive Xiao Feng.”
“Master Chu, your insight is unmatched. My little trick could never escape your discerning eyes,” Su Dingguo admitted awkwardly, inwardly tense. He had thought his life-saving measures would fool everyone, only for Chu Tian to see through them instantly. His fate was now at Chu Tian’s whim—a terrifying prospect.
“Tell me, where did you get your life-preserving talisman?” Chu Tian asked, uninterested in quarreling over seats and far more concerned with the talisman’s origins.
“To be honest, Master Chu, there’s an auction house on the outskirts of Tianmen City. That’s where I purchased the talisman,” Su Dingguo replied without hesitation.
Wei Changtian’s expression shifted, clearly uneasy. Even this subtle change did not escape Chu Tian’s notice.
“What is it?”
“Mr. Chu, the spirit stone I was fighting Xiao Feng for also came from the Tianmen auction,” Wei Changtian admitted at last, revealing its source.
A spark of interest flashed in Chu Tian’s eyes. First the spirit stone, now the talisman—this auction house possessed many treasures. Could it be a covert stronghold run by some cultivation sect?
The mysterious auction now piqued Chu Tian’s curiosity.
“When does this auction usually take place?” he asked.
“Master Chu, it’s held once a month. There are still a little over two weeks until the next one,” Su Dingguo explained.
“Very well. Next month, I’ll attend the auction myself,” Chu Tian decided, thinking perhaps he might find what he needed there.
“Master Chu, should you go to the Tianmen auction, please have someone notify me. I can lead the way,” Su Dingguo said, smiling obsequiously, like a sycophant. It was rare to see a Grandmaster reduced to a mere guide.
Chu Tian nodded, tacitly accepting, his gaze returning to Xiao Feng’s withered corpse. Xiao Feng had been slain, and the Wei family’s crisis was for the moment resolved.
Yet on Wei Yuansheng’s face, instead of joy, there was deep concern.
“Mr. Chu, it’s said that Xiao Feng had dealings with the Black Dragon Society. If word spreads of his death tonight, I fear the Black Dragon Society will not let this matter rest,” Wei Yuansheng worried aloud.
“It’s no matter. If the Black Dragon Society seeks revenge, I’ll deal with them all at once,” Chu Tian replied, waving dismissively, his tone light as ever.
Wei Yuansheng said no more, but Wei Changtian interjected,
“Mr. Chu, it’s already late. Would you care to spend the night at our home?”
“Alright,” Chu Tian nodded, not refusing.
“Qingqiu, tidy up your room—Mr. Chu will stay there tonight,” Wei Changtian ordered, grinning broadly.
“Sleep together?” Wei Qingqiu was shocked, frozen in place.
“Of course you’ll stay together. Aren’t you two a couple? What’s wrong with sharing a room?” Wei Changtian waved off her protests, making the decision outright.
Wei Qingqiu’s face flushed, but she did not object further.
Night fell. In the bedroom.
“Damn you, Chu Tian, this is all your fault! I’ll beat you up!” Wei Qingqiu, tidying the bed, raised her fists and pummeled her pillow, as if the soft cushion were Chu Tian himself.
“Qingqiu, are you really so eager to murder your husband?” Just then, Chu Tian entered the room, smiling.
“When did you come in?” Wei Qingqiu jumped, quickly ceasing her assault on the pillow.
“I’ve been here since you started attacking the pillow,” Chu Tian laughed, teasing, “You looked so happy, I didn’t want to interrupt.”
“You dare say that?” Wei Qingqiu’s cheeks reddened. She snatched up the pillow and threw it at Chu Tian’s head.
Chu Tian caught it easily and walked straight to her side by the bed.
