Chapter 110: Treasure
Although Yue Shengke's collusion with the half-orcs resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands tonight, anyone with a sense of justice would have wished him dead.
Yet Yue Shengke’s escape should not have disappointed him, right?
Before this, Tang Mubai had no connection to Yue Shengke, and likely never would.
Tang Mubai was an enigma.
The few masters beside Liu Tianxiu were left speechless.
One of them, a middle-aged man with a steady demeanor and a scar beneath his left eye, cleared his throat and stepped forward a few paces. “Consultant Liu means that Yue Shengke stole the ‘Seven-Leaf Golden Lotus,’ likely to break through the Innate Realm and come back to cause trouble for us. We regret letting him escape.”
“Yes, yes, that’s exactly what I mean,” Liu Tianxiu replied, embarrassed.
She had not fully recovered from the shock, mainly because of the two sword energies Tang Mubai unleashed at the end—they were terrifyingly powerful.
The lion-headed creature transformed again, its strength rivaling that of a half-step Sovereign.
Had it been allowed to rampage freely, slaughtering indiscriminately, they all would have died!
But it was swiftly dispatched by Tang Mubai’s two sword energies.
A lion-headed being able to be effortlessly slain by two sword energies—one could imagine Tang Mubai’s prowess.
Even if he wasn’t a half-step Innate, he was still at the peak of mastery!
Such a person had never appeared in Hongye City before, as if he had sprung from nowhere.
As the security consultant of the Governor’s Office, Liu Tianxiu felt duty-bound to clarify the situation.
That was why she had been distracted so long and ended up speaking nonsense.
...
Tang Mubai had no interest in Liu Tianxiu’s ramblings; since someone had explained, he let it slide.
Compared to that, the words “Seven-Leaf Golden Lotus” piqued his curiosity.
“‘Seven-Leaf Golden Lotus’?” Tang Mubai’s eyes flickered. “You mean the fifth-grade elixir that enhances a martial artist’s comprehension, aiding them in breaking through the Innate Realm?”
“Yes.”
The scarred middle-aged man nodded. “Exactly! The Martial Association acquired this fifth-grade elixir two months ago and kept it stored in the treasury, planning to auction it publicly next month. Many knew of it, but no one expected Yue Shengke to collude with the half-orcs just to get it.”
“By the way, Yue Shengke’s target was the ‘Seven-Leaf Golden Lotus,’ while the half-orcs aimed for a blade!”
At this, the middle-aged man descended to the ground. Near the lion-headed creature’s corpse, he picked up a metal box, returned to the air, opened it, revealing a dark greatsword resembling a bone-cutting blade.
“This is the Beast-Subduing Blade!” he explained.
“The Beast-Subduing Blade?” Tang Mubai raised an eyebrow. “The legendary seventh-grade treasure capable of suppressing all beasts?”
“Yes,” Liu Tianxiu nodded. “The legend is true. But after obtaining the blade, we studied it for a long time and still couldn’t figure out how to use it. The Martial Association planned to send it to the Federal Headquarters for deeper research. Unexpectedly, the half-orcs learned of this and colluded with Yue Shengke to seize it.”
“I see now,” Tang Mubai said, enlightened.
Without a grand scheme, Yue Shengke and the half-orcs would not have caused such a commotion.
One sought to break through the Innate Realm; the other to steal the seventh-grade treasure capable of suppressing them.
Whether the Seven-Leaf Golden Lotus or the Beast-Subduing Blade, both were rare treasures.
Tang Mubai had only heard of them online; only now did he witness their reality.
The Beast-Subduing Blade resting in the metal box appeared ordinary.
Even with Tang Mubai’s maximum perception of 20, he could detect nothing extraordinary.
“What about Zhang Guohao? Yue Shengke escaped, but what happened to him?”
Shifting his gaze from the blade, Tang Mubai asked.
“He’s dead,” an elderly man who had been silent answered. “The ‘Blood Fiend Magic Array’ set up by Yue Shengke and the half-orcs in the city was intended to block us so they could escape through the underground passage with the Seven-Leaf Golden Lotus and Beast-Subduing Blade.”
“But thanks to Master Hong’s interference, the array didn’t fully activate, their plan failed, and Zhang Guohao led his men into the underground passage. We pursued them in time, killed them, and destroyed the passage.”
“Yue Shengke, the lion-headed, and fox-headed creatures had no escape underground and had to flee on the surface. We chased after them. If it weren’t for Master Hong, with the lion-headed creature’s power, we might have lost them.”
“This incident owes the greatest credit to Master Hong,” Liu Tianxiu added. “Without him, countless lives would have been lost. If Master Hong doesn’t mind, you could rest at the Governor’s Office, or leave your contact information. After we conclude the matter, the Governor will personally offer his thanks!”
“No need.”
Tang Mubai’s low voice rejected the offer. “Slaying half-orcs is our human duty; there’s no need to speak of merit, especially since many half-orcs still remain in the city. Timely eradication is the real priority.”
“Rest assured, Master Hong. After reinforcements arrived, we’ve been handling them. Not a single half-orc will escape!” the scarred middle-aged man added.
“Let’s hope so. By the way, I’m curious—how did so many half-orcs get inside the domain wall? Didn’t the military notice?”
“Uh…”
Liu Tianxiu hesitated, then forced a smile. “To be honest, we don’t know how they got in.”
“This matter is still under investigation,” the scarred man said gravely. “Yue Shengke escaped, but we captured many from the Honghu Group. We should be able to get answers soon about how the half-orcs entered the domain wall!”
Get answers soon? How?
Tang Mubai silently scoffed but maintained a calm expression. With a low voice, he said indifferently, “In that case, I’ll trouble you all. I have other matters to attend to. Farewell!”
With that, he vanished toward the ground in a flash.
Passing by the fox-headed creature’s corpse, he noticed a silver oval boulder rolled into a corner. His heart stirred; he swiftly darted over, scooped up the giant oval stone, and disappeared into the darkness.
The whole process took less than three seconds.
Liu Tianxiu and the others in the air did not notice.
They had wanted to keep Tang Mubai around, but he left as quickly as he had appeared, vanishing without a trace.
Though the fox-headed creature had fled carrying the silver oval boulder, puzzling them.
The half-man-high stone, after more than a month of study by the Martial Association, remained a mystery—only known as a high-hardness raw ore. Losing it was no great loss, so no one hurried to reclaim it.
Tang Mubai took it because his sixth sense suddenly alerted him that the stone was no ordinary object.
That was why he casually pocketed it upon leaving.
As for Liu Tianxiu wanting him to leave contact information for a personal visit of thanks—
Did he look like a fool?
