“Chaos Rule: Ice Spike Storm!”

Chuyun launched an attack directly from the sky. This time, he used the newly mastered second-level spell, Ice Spike Storm. With the enhancement of the Chaos Rule, both the temperature and quantity of the ice spikes had multiplied several times over.

Chuyun’s immense mental power allowed him to control numerous ice spikes simultaneously to strike.

The Ice Spike Storm surrounded all the enemies. Then, under Chuyun’s control, the ice spikes within the wind barrier rained down like a torrential downpour, piercing through the enemies trapped within the net.

*Pfft!*

*Pfft!*

*Pfft!*

…

The ice spikes struck the soldiers with precision. Those clad in cloth and leather armor fell dead on the spot, while the soldiers wearing metal armor were instantly stiffened, their body temperature plummeting rapidly. Thick frost began to form on the surface of their bodies.

The battle was over in an instant. This squad of about twenty royal knights, led by the crown prince’s personal guard, was utterly powerless before the overwhelming magic and was defeated without resistance.

Magic tomes were always objects of awe. The members of the royal knight squad, accustomed to ruling with impunity in the capital, hadn’t felt such fear of being dominated in a long time.

Chuyun descended from the sky, casting several healing chants on Paimon.

Most of the royal knights died on the spot. The leader was pinned to the ground by Chuyun’s ice spikes, his limbs already frostbitten and ruined.

“Who gave you the courage to harm my pet?” After comforting his loyal guardian Paimon, Chuyun stepped forward and pressed his foot on the guard’s head.

This time, he was truly angry. If he had been any later, Paimon might have died, and the secret in the basement could have been discovered.

The mage academy was unreliable, allowing such chaos to unfold. It seemed he would have to establish a mage tower himself in the future.

“You—you dare—dare to attack the royal knight squad!” The guard’s voice trembled. His limbs were numb from the freezing, and the cold was creeping toward his heart and brain.

“Hmph. This is my residence. What right do you have to barge in?” Chuyun said, then stomped on the guard’s right hand, breaking it.

Though the arm was frozen solid and shattered under his foot, the guard felt no pain. But the sensation of losing control over his own body was the most terrifying.

“Don’t kill me! It was the crown prince who sent me! If you kill me, the crown prince will come after you. Trouble, big trouble!” The guard seemed poorly informed.

That was understandable. Chuyun had returned to Blackstone City so quickly that even Leotis had only just received the news and hadn’t had time to pass it on.

This guard didn’t even know the crown prince had escaped; the orders he carried were quite old.

Chuyun was too lazy to explain further. He let the guard’s body temperature continue to drop until he froze solid.

Having dealt with the royal knights, Chuyun approached the mage academy’s guards and questioned them, “You just let them in like that? Didn’t the headmaster stop them?”

The guards grimaced and explained, “Sorry, Lord Chuyun, we were no match for them and dared not offend the royal knight squad.”

“The headmaster left the school not long ago, and no one else dared to intercept the crown prince’s men. So… well, that’s how it happened.”

“Enough, no need to explain. Get these bodies moved out of here,” Chuyun waved his hand, not pursuing their responsibility any further.

Just like what happened in the noble district, this was merely a branch under the mage guild; these people dared not disobey the crown prince’s orders.

As for the headmaster, Chuyun guessed he had left to help search for the missing crown prince after receiving the news.

Compared to these guards, the students were more earnest. Though they dared not fight, they helped by summoning reinforcements. As Chuyun prepared to enter the building, Anna came running over, breathless.

“Chuyun, what happened here? Are you alright?” Anna asked, panting.

“No big deal, just a bunch of overconfident rabble. But some of the magical barriers inside the building were damaged. Help me tell Nelson to claim compensation from the royal knight squad himself,” Chuyun said casually.

He had already killed the crown prince; naturally, he wasn’t concerned about a few pawns.

Anna looked worried, though. After all, the royal knight squad represented the crown.

At that moment, a figure descended from the sky: Selena.

Selena had previously gone out with Nelson to witness the commotion but returned early after learning of the crown prince’s death.

As she arrived at the school gate, she saw the familiar spell Ice Spike Storm. However, this version seemed more powerful than the one she knew; even from a distance, she could feel the chill.

She had assumed it was a senior practicing, but to her surprise, it was Chuyun.

Selena had always thought Chuyun specialized in fire magic, yet now he had surpassed her in her own domain of ice magic, which both astonished and excited her. Perhaps she could find an opportunity to spar with him.

But upon seeing the bodies of the knight squad, she immediately realized something was wrong and hurriedly landed.

“Chuyun, you’re too impulsive,” Selena said. She was from the imperial capital and knew the royal knight squad better than anyone.

If he had only injured them, as a third-level mage, Chuyun might have room to maneuver. But killing so many royal knights was a serious problem.

“What? They hurt my pet, and I’m not allowed to fight back? I’m supposed to just let them attack me?” Chuyun retorted angrily.

“There’s no point arguing with me. I don’t want to get involved,” Selena replied.

“Although I dislike those people too, they are still under Leotis’s command and represent the royal family,” she continued. “Besides, you’re only a third-level mage without any family background.”

“Good luck to you. Take care of yourself,” Selena said, then turned and walked back to her room.

To her, Chuyun was just an interesting character, not someone particularly important. She had already been kind enough to warn him.

Just as she closed her door, she couldn’t help but open it again and call out to Chuyun nearby, “By the way, the crown prince is dead. He was killed by the border troops of the Karakia Kingdom while trying to cross over illegally.”

“Leotis probably has no time to deal with you now, but you’d better prepare yourself, or you’ll face endless trouble.”

Though she spoke brusquely, Chuyun could hear the goodwill beneath her tone.

Chuyun smiled. “Thanks for your concern.”

“I’m not concerned about you at all!” Selena blushed slightly and quickly shut the door.

Hearing the news of the crown prince’s death, everyone nearby became restless.

“What? Did I hear that right? The crown prince is dead?”

“Killed by the Karakia Kingdom’s border troops?”

“Ridiculous! Why would the crown prince go there? What about Leotis? Isn’t he supposed to protect the crown prince?”

“Damn it. Could this spark a war?”

…
