Chapter 8: Draining the Yu Family's Wealth

Yu Xunge sat cross-legged, leaning against her bedroom door, waiting until 3 a.m. when she finally heard movement outside. Instantly, she connected to the vision of the thrush bird. After a while, she saw Yu Qingshan appear at the study door. He first twisted one of the legs of the desk at mid-height, then stood on a chair, feeling around the top of the bookshelf for a moment. Finally, he took out all the books from the third shelf and fiddled with something in the corner of that shelf.
At this point, the bookshelf swung open to both sides, revealing an entrance just wide enough for a person to pass through.
After a short while, Yu Qingshan emerged carrying a vase. Reversing the process, he closed the bookshelf carefully, placing all the books back in their original positions.
As soon as Yu Qingshan returned to his room, Yu Xunge rose almost immediately. There was no surveillance elsewhere in the Yu residence, but she wasn’t sure if the treasure room might have it. To be safe, she changed clothes, put on gloves, and used her disguise skill to take on the appearance of Yu Xunhuan, then quietly and gracefully entered the study.
Once the location and sequence of mechanisms were known, figuring it out was only a matter of time. Soon, the wardrobe opened. Yu Xunge quickly stepped inside, leaving the thrush bird at the door to keep watch and alert her if there was any sound.
After walking about two meters, she reached another room, which must have been the secret chamber converted from the adjacent storage room. It had no door, evidently deliberately sealed except for the passage leading to the study. The room was about the same size as the study and filled with wooden crates.
She had seen these crates in her past life. Back then, she was already a wanted fugitive, running for half a year, living rough and exposed to the elements. Yet Yu Qingshan and Yi Qiuguo were busy moving the treasures they had collected over decades into the living room, preparing to move them the next day to the new villa Yu Xunhuan had bought for them, their faces alight with joy and pride.
Yu Xunge took out identical cardboard boxes she had prepared in advance, transferred the contents of the wooden crates into them, then, pressing down on the boxes, used her mind to stack them neatly into her spatial pouch, leaving only empty crates scattered on the floor.
Having completed everything, she closed the secret chamber with satisfaction, returned to her room, changed clothes, removed her disguise, and lay down with a smile.
Finally, she could sleep well.
On the 26th, Yu Xunge woke early and went out for a run to exercise.
Today, Su Yitong would definitely come by.
Because Su Yitong was also a beta tester and, as the legitimate wife of the main male lead, the live-in son-in-law, she couldn’t possibly be absent.
Though Yu Xunge couldn’t fathom why a wealthy young lady would download a game with no promotion in the dead of night...
She could only guess that perhaps Yu Xunhuan was playing it at the time, and Su Yitong downloaded it to play with her boyfriend? Or maybe because she could become the heroine, she naturally had a stroke of luck?
During this, the company called to inform her that the role she had played for less than three days had been given to someone else. Yu Xunge didn’t mind; compared to the entertainment world, she had more important matters to attend to.
By 11 a.m., Yu Xunhuan arrived with Su Yitong.
Yu Xunge had long hidden her hatred deep within. When she saw Su Yitong, she could even smile. She admired herself for that.
Page 2/3
But beyond that, there was nothing else. She couldn’t bring herself to utter flattering words. Even though her brother in her previous life always said she had a hard time in the Su family, she couldn’t bring herself to curry favor for her brother with the Su family. After all, the son-in-law wasn’t her!
Last life, when Su Yitong came to visit, Yu Xunge was distressed over the Liu Hongsheng affair. What Su Yitong saw surely wasn’t the whole story. Probably because of that day’s unrest, when Yu Xunhuan guided her to believe she had an abnormal affection for her brother, Su Yitong believed it so easily.
Today, Yu Xunge wore a smile filled with blessings throughout, even stealing a glance at Su Yitong during the toast.
Very good. Although she didn’t manage to steal anything then, the skill was definitely activated. She could clearly sense whether the skill failed or couldn’t be used.
It seemed Su Yitong was already a player.
Yu Xunge stole three more times, reducing her own health to 40% before stopping, succeeding once.
When the theft success notification appeared, Yu Xunge glanced down while pretending to eat, checking what she had stolen.
One point of luck!!
Su Yitong was a healer in her previous life. Yu Xunge had expected to steal mostly intelligence attributes today, but unexpectedly, Su Yitong’s highest attribute was luck, which couldn’t be allocated points, and luck could be stolen?!
Perhaps at first, Yu Xunge was simply using the skill to annoy her enemy at the cost of her own health, but now she was determined: even if she had to use potions, she would steal luck from Su Yitong until she couldn’t steal any more!
This was extremely rare—in fact, it might be her only chance to steal luck.
Luck was the highest value in the attribute panel and thus extremely rare. Later, as everyone leveled up and gained attribute points, with five points per level, and people tended to allocate them to their dominant attributes, such a chance would practically never arise again.
But the more so, she couldn’t rush. The Su family’s power was beyond her now. Although because of the passive effect of the Thief God, even if she stole something from Su Yitong now, Su Yitong wouldn’t realize it until a day later.
The Su family’s influence was huge. She would steal not only from Su Yitong but also from Yu Xunhuan and his group of brothers. Every time something went missing, Yu Xunge was present for a long time and occasionally slipped away briefly (to drink healing potions), a pattern easily arousing suspicion.
Naturally, this attention to detail had to begin with the first theft. Yu Xunge never trusted luck.
So, for the next hour, Yu Xunge played the role of a mascot, occasionally offering blessings. Soon after the meal finished and everyone sat down to chat, Yu Xunge used the thrush bird to call her own phone on her backup device, then pretended to leave for work.
She took the elevator down and drove conspicuously out of the neighborhood under surveillance.
Half an hour later, after replenishing her health by gnawing on jerky, Yu Xunge used her disguise skill to transform into a sturdy middle-aged man, then returned to the neighborhood and climbed the stairs back to the Yu family’s floor.
Through the thrush bird left in the Yu residence, she saw that no one was on the first floor. A few people were in the study, discussing matters. She could vaguely hear words like “Yu family,” “Su family,” and “live-in son-in-law.”
There was no surveillance in the hallway, but every security door now had its own camera.

Yu Xunge took out a basic invisibility potion from her backpack and drank it. This potion only granted invisibility for five minutes, with a seven-minute cooldown; usage required careful timing.
Once the potion took effect, not only did her body become invisible, but all the items she carried also vanished. She walked over, took out her invisible key, and opened the Yu family’s main door.
The door seemed to open slightly as if pushed by the wind, then slowly closed behind her.
Yu Xunge timed her movements perfectly and arrived at the study, which was left open.
Yu Qingshan sat behind the desk while Yi Qiuguo and others were relaxed on the sofas, all smiling lightly.
Yu Xunge moved softly to Su Yitong’s side. Just as Yu Xunhuan raised his hand to put an arm around her shoulders, Yu Xunge began her relentless thievery!
She stole four times in a row, her face paling as her health dropped to 20%. She downed a bottle of basic healing potion, restoring her health to 80%, then continued!
Three more consecutive steals!
Success! Yu Xunge glanced at her status, overwhelmed with joy—it was luck again!
Could this be the so-called “stealing luck increases luck” phenomenon?!
Yu Xunge kept track of the time in her mind. With two minutes left before invisibility wore off, she moved gently out of the room, went to Yu Xunhuan’s bedroom, pulled aside the sheet hanging by the bed, and hid under it.
By now, her personal panel’s luck value had reached 10, with the words “Max Value” following.
Not long after Yu Xunge lay down, the invisibility potion wore off. She quietly nibbled on jerky to rapidly restore health while waiting for the cooldown of the basic healing potion. Thanks to the meat, her health recovered five points per minute.
Five minutes later, when the potion cooldown ended, her health had risen to 45%.
Yu Xunge didn’t rush to drink another potion, instead continuing to eat jerky from her pouch. Only at low levels could she steal recklessly; at higher levels, with thousands of health points, each theft deducted a percentage of health. The basic healing potion restored only 60 points, so to recover quickly, she would need intermediate, advanced, or even super potions. The cost of stealing repeatedly would become extremely high.
Just as her health recovered to 96%, the door opened and voices came in.
It was Su Yitong and Yu Xunhuan.
