Chapter 28: A Living Bodhisattva
Like Yu Xunhuan?
...No need, no originality.
Something that would land you in jail for trading? That works.
She could only find such things in the black market.
The person selling it, seeing her clumsy, inexperienced demeanor, even offered some advice: "It's never too late to turn back."
Disguised as a fifty-year-old man, Yu Xunge handed over the money and replied, "It's not for me."
The man stared at Yu Xunge with the look one might reserve for a beast, then exchanged the goods for the cash.
Yu Xunge returned the look, one that clearly asked, "How are you even less human than a beast?"
Once everything was settled, Yu Xunge thought, since she was already here, she couldn't just sit around. Whenever she was idle, her bones felt itchy—she even suspected she had some sort of ailment. She had actually asked a doctor at the black market, but the physician at that back-alley clinic, devoid of any medical ethics, told her it wasn't a disease; it was just that she was "cheap."
Yu Xunge: "..." Damn, what a venomous tongue. No wonder he couldn't be a real doctor!
But it was the only clinic around, and it offered a wide range of services. She left two hair samples—one from while she was using her disguise skill and one of her own—to have the doctor run a DNA test.
While waiting for the results, she planned to look for the mutated items in B City that she had heard about in her past life.
Nothing too large, nothing that could be mass-produced for the battlefield, and nothing that was an intensely cherished personal item. Ideally, something whose owner held a grudge against her...
But she didn't come up with anything even after finishing a cup of coffee. Any mutated item famous enough to be known either transformed its owner’s life or brought them ruin.
She didn't want to touch the former, and the latter were truly rare.
The national order hadn't collapsed. While darkness existed everywhere, the country was generally united in resisting the alien threat. Besides, the times were chaotic and the laws were harsh; the faction that had destroyed the pet hospital had paid a heavy price later on.
After much thought, she only recalled one of the male lead’s cohorts: a man named Ye Dong.
Before the game invasion, this person had known Yu Xunhuan—they were both game streamers and friends. After the third closed beta, he had run to S City to join the male lead. During that period, he had even tried to pursue her.
At the time, she hadn't understood why a man who had absolutely nothing felt so superior in front of her.
He offered no care or concern, just empty talk. When she rejected him, he acted as if she were ungrateful. Under such circumstances, constantly saying, "I like you, be my girlfriend," wasn't pursuit—it was harassment.
Yu Xunhuan hadn't spoken up for him, but he hadn't stopped him either.
Thinking back on it now, it was probably because they were both players at the time, and thus looked down on ordinary people.
Ye Dong’s divine talent was actually weak—a mere A-rank. In the male and female leads' team, where S-rankers were everywhere, it was nothing to boast about; even her own A-rank talent was better than his.
But Ye Dong possessed a mutated item from after the game invasion that allowed him to stay by the male lead’s side.
It was a small figurine he had played with for years. After it mutated, it became his contracted pet. It could grow in size to act as a puppet or soldier, and it could unleash skills with 80% of the owner’s attributes. It could even be resurrected if killed.
The best part was that, like bound equipment, it couldn't be stolen—not even if the owner died.
She didn't intend to steal it. Though Ye Dong was an idiot, he had only harassed her verbally, had a nasty attitude, looked at her with lecherous eyes, constantly told the male lead how tolerant he was of his sister, and—whenever she and a few others went to lure monsters with that puppet—the puppet would protect everyone else, just not her...
His crimes didn't warrant death.
Yu Xunge considered herself a very tolerant person.
She believed in settling grievances and repaying hatred, but she wasn't the type to wipe out someone's entire family on a whim.
And so, she snuck into Ye Dong’s home, found that familiar little figurine—a gaudy little character holding a sword—and took out her dagger. She chopped off the puppet's two tiny arms and shaved off its hair, then left with the scraps.
Passing by an alleyway, she casually crushed the two cute little arms, the tiny sword, and the scalp, scattering the dust into a trash can.
Sigh.
Yu Xunge stood on the side of the road, looking out at the traffic and sighing.
She was probably what people called a living Bodhisattva.
Night deepened. Having completely abandoned a normal sleep schedule, Yu Xunge appeared in Han Qianshan’s room once again.
It was already 2 AM; how was this person still awake?
Although she had used the Illusion Spell, she didn't feel it was fresh enough, so she quickly topped it off with an invisibility potion.
Then, she watched as Han Qianshan smashed things around. Soon after, Han Qianhai entered, both of them looking ghastly.
"Did you find out anything?"
"No. Only our attributes have dropped."
"...#¥%...¥@"
"My top hat is gone too! It must be some skill that can steal items. Don't let me find out who this bitch is! I’ll skin them alive!"
"What if they come back to steal again? We don't even know if our attribute points can be recovered..."
"I've asked around the Yu and Li families; nothing like this has happened there."
Yu Xunge felt a sense of relief. The more irritable these two were, the more it proved she had done the right thing.
When they mentioned the Yu family, her heart skipped a beat. Was it Yu Qingshan's main family?
It didn't matter to her, though. After her rebirth, she had taken the time to get a DNA test. She, Yu Qingshan, Yi Qiuguo, and Yu Xunhuan were truly family; the dream of being a "real heiress" had been thoroughly shattered.
Yu Xunge simply stood in the corner and closed her eyes to rest. After Han Qianhai left, she waited a while longer to ensure Han Qianshan was asleep before casting a "Stupefy" on her.
After all, there was a difference between being knocked out while sleeping and being knocked out while awake—the former would just make one suspect they slept like a log, while the latter would surely remember it upon waking the next day.
Then, Yu Xunge followed the method the "less-than-a-beast" seller had taught her to make Han Qianshan happy.
She did the same for Han Qianhai next door.
Yu Xunge stayed in B City for a week, waiting for the DNA results. The DNA from the hair samples taken while she was disguised had only a 99.5% similarity to her own—which was essentially the similarity between two strangers. It seemed she wouldn't need to wear a swim cap when using her disguise skill in the future.
She hadn't been idle during this time, visiting the Han household every night, rain or shine.
She swore she would be a good person from now on! No more causing trouble, no more messing with people; she was going to study hard!!
But the moment she arrived at the airport, she saw Yu Xunhuan waiting at the arrivals gate...
Yu Xunge: "..."
Sometimes, she truly admired Yu Xunhuan’s service attitude.
No wonder he could drive three women to fight over him.
She had only mentioned in passing at noon yesterday that she was returning today, but look at him—stubble on his face, exhaustion in his eyes, but a glimmer of light, and he was holding a cold breakfast from McDonald's...
The details. Everything was a signal that said, "Although I didn't know what time your flight was, I came to the airport very early to wait for you."
Can't you just ask me what time I'm arriving?!
