Chapter 26: The Han Family

Yu Xunge had never intended to kill Su Jinxuan outright. After all, Su Jinxuan would eventually die at the hands of the male lead. He was in love with Liang Yuchuan—so naturally, he had to die, right?
Not only that, but before his death he caused the male lead no end of trouble: framing him, exploiting him, sneering at him, stealing his possessions, and so on. He was practically the gender-swapped sister-in-law from one of those women-oriented melodramas.
After stealing four attribute points, Yu Xunge immediately began searching Su Jinxuan for equipment.
She actually found something: a plain cloth belt that granted one point of Constitution when worn. It was not that she looked down on such a small bonus. The problem was that the belt was filthy…
It looked as though a butcher had worn it while slaughtering pigs for ten years, soaking it through with lard, and then left it to dry in the wind.
It was a cloth belt, yet it pulled out like leather.
Still, she could not afford to get carried away. She tossed it into her backpack. At the very least, it ought to fetch a few dozen silver coins.
After leaving the Su family estate, Yu Xunge hurried over to Liang Yuchuan’s dressing room. The Liang family had recently installed a spray system for Detection Potion as well, but just like the Su family, they only used the basic variety.
After all, spraying an entire estate with potion every day consumed an astonishing amount. Where would they find so much intermediate-grade potion?
Liang Yuchuan had been having a terrible time lately. She knew that modern medicine could not restore her hand, yet she refused to use a prosthetic. As a result, she had been desperately searching for players and had even ordered many of the Liang family’s trusted subordinates to join the game.
At the same time, she suspected that Liang Hui might somehow be involved. Otherwise, why had Liang Hui died on the very day she lost her hand? Thanks to the Soros Spectacles, she naturally knew that he was a player as well, though she had never exposed him.
However, she had people investigate everyone Liang Hui had recently met, and they found nothing.
With no progress to speak of, she discovered during the second closed beta test that her game character was also missing a forearm. Liang Yuchuan’s mental state had become terrifyingly unstable. Apart from her family, almost no one dared approach her.
After more than an hour of stealing, Liang Yuchuan finally produced something: one point of Constitution.
Yu Xunge immediately returned to her villa, downed a large mug of coffee, then prepared three huge bowls of meat and placed them in front of the cats’ shelter. After patting the three furry heads inside, she left the villa and drove to the airport herself.
She could have used Phantom Shift to go straight there, but unless she was doing something illegal, she pretended she did not possess the ability. That way, anyone trying to investigate her whereabouts would be able to find something.
At the airport, she told Yu Qingshan and the others that she was going to Beijing. She had spotted information on the forum suggesting that a player might be there, and she was going to investigate.
Yu Qingshan and the others believed her without question.
While waiting to board, she sat with her eyes closed, watching a video in her mind of the undead female mentor brewing basic potions.
Then a cautious voice came from beside her. It belonged to a young woman, who asked whether she was Yu Xunge.
Yu Xunge paused. The faces of various enemies and fugitive friends from her previous life flashed through her mind, but none matched.

The long silence made the girl anxious. Thinking she had upset Yu Xunge, she apologized.
“I’m sorry. I disturbed you. I’m really sorry! I didn’t mean to… I just couldn’t help myself. It’s been so long since I’ve heard anything about you.”
Oh… a fan?
What a distant memory… Such a pure and clumsy kind of affection.
Yu Xunge pulled down her mask and chatted with the girl for a few minutes, even buying her a cup of coffee. But after witnessing all kinds of bizarre God-given talents, she declined when the girl asked for an autograph.
She continued thinking about it even after boarding the plane.
The troubles of the entertainment industry seemed to belong to a few centuries ago. Even Liu Zhengliu sending her to the bed of a dead man now felt like child’s play in retrospect.
She had nearly been tricked into an alien’s bed by the siblings Han Qianshan and Han Qianhai, too.
Su Yitong was certainly bad, but most of her methods involved using power to crush others. She did not stoop to truly underhanded tactics. She would have other people snatch Yu Xunge’s opportunities, buy up every copy of any material Yu Xunge urgently needed the moment she learned of it, or forcibly take away her high-level quest items.
Liang Yuchuan was vicious. Whenever she hated someone, she preferred to act rather than argue. She did not bother with elaborate schemes. To her, directly harming someone’s body was far more effective than any form of psychological torment. Her motto was: tormenting the body was better than tormenting the heart.
As for the Han siblings, they were both sinister and poisonous. They acted warm and affectionate on the surface, yet their methods were utterly vile. They had even once tried to contract Yu Xunge as their slave…
Every one of them was seriously ill in the head.
Yu Xunhuan was the son-in-law of three families. Was she supposed to be the heroine of some three-family abuse romance?
She had never understood why those three women, with so much free time on their hands, did not fight one another instead of taking their anger out on her.
And it was not just them. Even several of the male lead’s male friends were the same.
She suspected that Yu Xunhuan had done something behind the scenes… but she had no proof.
She could no longer remember the details of the book she had seen while dying. Even if she could, the contents would have been beautified and distorted.
The book did not matter. Her feelings mattered most. The Han sisters would have to be given a little “special care.”
…
Standing in City B, Yu Xunge called the Gun King and asked whether he knew how to reach the city’s underground passage.
The Gun King said, “Go to a certain bank first, then head north for a certain number of kilometers. There’s a McKing there. Go inside and ask for the Crazy Wednesday combo. If he says they don’t have it, tell him you want a two-yuan ice cream cone instead. Don’t actually take the cone—just have him put the ice cream in a cup. Then he’ll take you there.”

Yu Xunge: “…”
Yu Xunge: “Why can you enter City S’s underground passage just by finding the right bar’s back door?”
The Gun King said, “Ah, because the underground market you entered back then wasn’t a real underground market.”
Yu Xunge clutched her own pig brain in disbelief. “Impossible! Absolutely impossible!” She had even paid someone inside to cut off a certain man’s junk! And he was saying it was not an underground market?
The Gun King said, “Well, running into me back then was just luck. I happened to be going upstairs to buy coffee. If you want City S’s underground passage, go to a certain café and ask for a two-liter cup of black coffee. When they tell you they don’t have a cup that large, say that you brought your own beans. When they tell you to take them out, give them a one-gram gold bean. Then they’ll take you inside.”
Yu Xunge was silent for a long while before sighing. “People from the capital really are honest.”
The Gun King said, “Yes. I’ll wait for your call.”
With that, he hung up.
What was with that faint hint of flirtation? Yu Xunge sneered. Who said she was going to call him?
A few minutes later, Yu Xunge was squatting by the curb, calling the Gun King.
She felt like having a drink to drown her sorrows.
The Gun King asked, “What happened? Couldn’t get in?”
Yu Xunge stared at the McKing across the street. “No. He took me to a door, then just stood there staring at me while I stared back. I’m a sensible person, of course I am! I immediately pulled out a thick wad of cash, but he wouldn’t take it. He even threw me out.”
The Gun King said, “They don’t accept cash either. They only take gold. Two grams.”
Yu Xunge: “? Why didn’t you say that before?”
The Gun King said, “I wanted you to experience the honesty of the capital.”
Yu Xunge: “…”
