Chapter 56: What’s Going On? Why Are They Kneeling on the Other Side?
“Hey, I think I hit something?”
The veteran 10086, who had been crouching atop the mech’s head continuously firing the AT launcher, suddenly noticed the opposing mech seemed a bit flustered.
Considering he appeared to have just shattered some glass, he immediately brightened up.
To be honest, he had fired several rounds without penetrating the enemy’s armor, to the point of feeling a bit disheartened!
This game was different from Battlefield; in Battlefield, the focus was on health bars, but here, it was all about armor thickness.
The AT launcher he wielded was based on the British Vickers Mark II 40mm breech-loading rapid-fire gun, originally used during World War I to target enemy bunkers from trenches.
However, it was later found that in trench warfare, this direct-fire cannon was less effective against bunkers than mortars, so it was soon repurposed for aircraft use, though it never achieved significant success.
Strictly speaking, this weapon was not designed for individual soldiers, as the cannon and its mount weighed a hefty 41 kilograms!
This showed just how physically strong Battlefield players truly were—carrying such a heavy iron block on their backs yet still able to sprint nimbly!
The weapon did possess anti-armor capabilities but could only penetrate about 20 to 30 millimeters of armor, comparable to an anti-tank rifle.
Hence, using such an assault sniper against the Dauntless mech was somewhat inadequate, as the Dauntless’s frontal armor exceeded 40 millimeters, designed from the start for armor-to-armor combat.
But by sheer luck, after accidentally shattering the enemy’s observation mirror, the tide of battle immediately turned.
Without the observation mirror, the commander lost comprehensive vision and had to rely on the driver below to observe through a small front window, leaving operations confused and ineffective.
Seizing the moment of the enemy’s disarray, the player crew wasted no time, swiftly adjusting their bayonet and charging forward.
With a dull thud, the sharp alloy bayonet pierced through the front armor, instantly pinning the commander above in place.
Then, after kicking aside the Dauntless mech of Black Hawk, King Gigi, with a freshly loaded cannon shell, aimed fiercely at the central part of the machine and fired again.
Boom!
The shot hit the mech’s ammunition depot, and with a loud explosion, the machine detonated on the spot!
“Ha—hey!”
“Well done! We are all warriors of the Empire; medals await us when we return!”
King Gigi excitedly shouted to Raven, but then suddenly noticed another slightly squat mech beside him mysteriously kneeling and paying deep homage as if surrendering.
“What’s going on? Are they surrendering to us?”
The two players were momentarily puzzled by the mech’s behavior until they spotted a massive harpoon protruding from its back and realized the situation was grim.
But it was already too late!
Whoosh!
Driven by electromagnetic force, a giant metal spike nearly four meters long, mounted on a rail, shot forth like a missile and pierced through their mech.
The powerful, heavy strike instantly pinned the entire Dauntless mech to the ground, rendering it a total wreck. The ruptured fuel tank then ignited a fierce explosion.
Boom!
Watching the Dauntless mech, which had accompanied them for so long, now reduced to scrap metal, the players couldn't help but curse.
Damn! What kind of mech was that? Launching harpoons from behind—so underhanded!
Relieved at having destroyed the Dauntless, the two Black Hawk crew inside the Hunter mech breathed a sigh of relief.
Seeing the Paleolithic operator skillfully control their own mech, taking on three armored enemies alone, left them both awestruck and terrified. If the opposing Dauntless had recovered its composure, they certainly wouldn’t stand a chance.
According to Black Hawk Empire’s design, the Pacifier mech was a classic anti-infantry machine, purely for slaughtering unarmored enemies and suppressing infantry fire.
The Dauntless mech was specialized for armor-to-armor combat, with a more agile frame and a powerful cannon capable of piercing virtually any known mech, plus close-quarter combat capabilities.
In comparison, their Hunter mech was thicker but slower in reaction, primarily serving as infantry support fire—a kind of assault cannon designed to help infantry dislodge enemy bunkers.
Its heavily armored front allowed it to withstand most firepower.
The nail gun devices on its two mechanical arms could rapidly fire numerous metal spikes like twin machine guns, with better armor penetration than conventional machine guns.
As for the harpoon on its back, it was a weapon meant to penetrate sturdy bunkers, capable of piercing through nearly half a meter of concrete or over 100 millimeters of armor almost instantly.
Unfortunately, its effective range was very short, limited to about a hundred meters, and its penetration power dropped sharply with distance.
Having just managed to destroy the Dauntless, the Hunter mech quickly shifted targets to attack the rampaging cavalry.
That cavalry was absurd—they were almost certain these were no ordinary riders, possibly some kind of special bio-engineered soldiers!
Otherwise, which army’s soldiers and warhorses could withstand so much punishment?
Moreover, these warhorses exhibited astonishing command and control, maintaining agile movement amid the chaotic battlefield, their intelligence far beyond that of normal warhorses!
Thanks to their nimble steeds, occasional grenade throws, and smooth dismount-then-quickly-set-up-cannon tactics, the cavalry swiftly eliminated three Pacifier mechs—true legends of armored killers!
Not to mention the soldiers skewered by their lances, who died feeling utterly wronged, never imagining that the world’s top machine-gun equipped troops could be taken down by a knight’s charge!
“…Damn, why are there still other captured mechs on that side?”
At that moment, the Hunter pilot suddenly noticed another Pacifier still in player hands, busily slaughtering infantry everywhere.
Though small and poorly armored, ineffective against armored units, this mech was a nightmare for infantry, with four machine guns capable of wiping out enemies in seconds.
Before the Hunter could devise a plan to deal with this mech, a vibrant emerald magic circle suddenly appeared above it, seemingly out of nowhere!
