[Side Mission: Assassinate the Sentries Outside the Enemy Supply Station! Total Mission Reward: 100 Merit Points! Participants: 0/5]
The moment Andre sent out the side mission, a group of quick-fingered players immediately accepted it.
Those who had failed to secure the mission could not help but unleash their cries of outrage in the chat:
I Know the Heavenly Venerable: “Damn! Did you all install some kind of red-envelope snatching software? How are your fingers so fast?”
Blue Cat, White Belly, Big Wild Boar: “Damn it! With reflexes this absurd, you definitely don’t have girlfriends!”
The players who had grabbed the mission completely ignored the envy and resentment of the others, shamelessly posting screenshots in the chat to taunt them.
Of course, although they mocked the others in the chat, their actions in the field were clean and decisive. Not a single spiteful player deliberately sabotaged someone else’s mission simply because they had failed to claim it.
Several players carefully lay flat on the ground, inching forward little by little.
Perhaps because of the game’s movement mechanics, they seemed to merge completely into the darkness as they crawled, making not the slightest sound. Their movements were extraordinarily stealthy.
What left Andre speechless, however, was the sheer variety of weapons these people had brought for the assassination!
Bayonets and the like were the most common weapons, but the medic’s tiny syringe looked downright bizarre.
Andre knew that in Battlefield 1, a medic’s syringe could not only revive teammates but also kill an enemy instantly when jabbed into them, earning medics the notorious title of battlefield quacks.
But in the real world, seeing someone run off to assassinate an enemy with a tiny syringe was simply deranged.
Even the medic’s syringe was not the funniest weapon. What left Andre most utterly dumbfounded was the player carrying half a liquor bottle.
A broken glass bottle was indeed extremely effective for stabbing people in Battlefield. It had an exceptionally high attack speed and counted as a sort of Easter egg. Who knew how many unlucky fools had died beneath a bottle?
But when Andre saw someone actually carrying one into a real battle, he truly could not hold it together. He really, really could not.
The players crept forward furtively across the ground, rapidly crawling toward the distant sentries. Before long, they had drawn near.
Thanks to his minimap, Andre could easily spot the several sentries near his position, whether they were openly posted or hidden.
Before the players set out, he had naturally whispered a warning into their ears as well, earning a flood of “666” praises in the chat.
Just then, one of the players moving toward the side of the village suddenly stopped.

A moment later, he suddenly posted a picture in the chat group and began cursing.
Black Crow: “What the hell! The Black Hawk soldiers in this game are way too vicious!”
“They occupied the village, fine—but why did they kill all the villagers?”
When Andre saw the message in the chat, his heart jolted. He carefully looked toward a small mound in the distance.
From the very beginning, because of the darkness, he had not been able to make out what the pile was. The system map did not mark it as an enemy, either.
So he had assumed it was a pile of straw or something similar.
There was nothing strange about a mound of earth appearing for no apparent reason. Even outside the residential compound where he had lived before crossing over, there had been a dirt mound whose purpose no one knew.
But when Andre looked at the screenshot in the chat, he froze.
In the image, a mountain of corpses lay silently at the entrance to the village.
Body after body, riddled with bullet holes and torn open so badly that their entrails spilled out, lay scattered there like garbage, their dead eyes staring sightlessly at the sky.
Among the corpses were men and women, old and young alike. Andre even saw a little boy, perhaps six or seven years old, whose head had been blown away until only half remained.
The sight made Andre’s mind explode with a sudden roar, leaving him utterly blank.
To the players, this was merely a scene in a game, yet even they felt furious at what they saw. To Andre, however, this was a real, bloody tragedy unfolding right before his eyes.
Andre suddenly raised his head and stared toward the small hill of corpses in the darkness.
When he realized that the mound was made up of several hundred bodies piled together, an endless killing intent surged within him. At that moment, hatred became something tangible.
This was not some national vendetta or family feud. Andre had no memories, and he felt no particular attachment to this country. At present, other than wanting to survive, he had no especially strong feelings.
This rage came purely from being a morally sound human being confronted with the deeds of an enemy of all humanity.
While the players were likewise seething with indignation, an enemy suddenly emerged in the distance.
The two sentries guarding the village entrance saluted the strangely dressed soldier. The man wore special armor, carried a large backpack on his back, and held a rifle glowing with green light. Clearly, he occupied some special position.
Andre had no idea what the weapon in the enemy’s hands actually was, but he could not help thinking that on a battlefield, the thing made an excellent living target.

The weapon looked exactly like the gauss weapons of the Necrons from Warhammer 40,000, radiating a greasy green glow.
Never mind nighttime—even in broad daylight, carrying something like that was practically begging the enemy to shoot you.
After nodding to the sentries beside him, the soldier walked straight to a spot near the mound of corpses.
Then he suddenly raised his weapon and fired a hideously green beam at the pile of bodies.
What was he trying to do? Was he going to burn the corpses?
Andre had no idea what the weapon was for and could not help wondering to himself.
But in the next instant, his eyes widened in horror.
As the green light swept continuously over the mound, the wretched corpses began to glow green as well.
The flesh on one body after another was rapidly stripped away, then quickly rotted into puddles of liquid on the ground. It looked exactly as though they had been struck by a Necron gauss weapon.
Although the flesh was stripped from the corpses, the bones remained. The mountain of bodies became a mountain of skeletons.
Yet under Andre’s stunned gaze, every one of those skeletons suddenly stood up. Green ghostly flames flickered in their eye sockets as they began moving of their own accord.
With a wave of the soldier’s hand, the skeletons stiffly formed ranks and marched toward the distant trucks, where they began hauling cargo.
The sight before him left Andre utterly bewildered.
What the hell was this?
Undead laborers from legend?
“Damn that vile Black Hawk Empire! They’re actually using necromancy in the open!”
Beside Andre, Major Yuri watched the scene and could not help cursing furiously.
