Chapter 9: Hunting Time (Part Two)

Mo Yu’s participation in the sniping disrupted the timeline.

The crowd was startled prematurely. The movement trajectories of the individual Human-Head Spiders deviated from their previous patterns, but the mirror images continued to repeat their earlier actions, causing subsequent bullets to strike nothing but air. Only 11 out of 20 bullets hit their marks.

This was the drawback of the rewind. Any interference would trigger a butterfly effect, making precise operations impossible. Mo Yu did not dwell on this; he quickly fired follow-up shots, sniping as many Human-Head Spiders as he could.

Out of 41 spiders, 8 ultimately escaped. The swimming pool was stained with black-green blood, and the floor was littered with spider fragments.

Mo Yu let out a long breath and triggered a rewind.

He returned to 9:02 AM, in the hotel restroom, just as he had set down his weapon case. He generated a mirror image and watched it depart. At 10:30 AM, two mirror images would carry out the precise sniping.

Mo Yu picked up the weapon case, slipped into a random room on the second floor, divided the weapons into four sets, attached silencers, distributed the ammunition, and then made a trip to the manager's office to retrieve the key ring and a master key card. Once finished, he returned to the room, locked the door from the inside, and waited.

10:25 AM.

Mo Yu began his move. He went downstairs to the security room and opened the door with the keys. Four security guards were on duty—all of them were Human-Head Spiders. Without a word, he opened fire at lightning speed, killing all the spiders. He then triggered a rewind, returning to the moment before the action to generate a mirror image. The mirror image left with the weapons and keys.

Mo Yu waited for three minutes.

10:28 AM.

He picked up a silenced pistol and a room card and stepped out. He used the master key card to open the room next door. There were four people inside: three Human-Head Spiders and one young man. Two spiders were holding the young man down, while the third was crouched on top of him, mouth-to-mouth; black spider legs could be seen writhing inside their mouths.

Mo Yu fired decisively. The spiders were killed before they could even react.

He followed the same procedure for the next room. Open the door, fire. The entire process was fluid, without a moment’s hesitation. The only inconvenience was that some humans would scream, requiring him to kick them unconscious.

After clearing two floors with maximum speed, Mo Yu triggered a rewind.

He returned to 10:28 AM. He generated a mirror image. After watching the mirror leave, he picked up another silenced pistol and a room card, entered the elevator, and headed to the fourth floor to begin the slaughter.

The fourth and fifth floors were purged.

Rewind.

Back to 10:28 AM again.

Mo Yu picked up a submachine gun and a room card, followed the second mirror into the elevator, and pressed the button for the sixth floor. After clearing the sixth floor, he rewound again.

Back to 10:28 AM.

There was one shotgun, one rifle, and four grenades left. He took them all, followed the two mirror images into the elevator, and pressed the button for the seventh floor. The mirrors got off on the fourth and sixth floors respectively to begin the slaughter.

The elevator arrived at the seventh floor. This was a banquet hall. Ten minutes ago, a large number of Human-Head Spiders had gathered here. There were two armed spiders on duty at the entrance. As Mo Yu stepped out of the elevator, he raised his shotgun and blew their heads off before they could react.

He shattered the wooden door lock with a single shot and kicked open the banquet hall doors. He strode in with the shotgun slung over his shoulder, greeting them loudly:

"Good morning, monsters! Help me fill out my bestiary!"

The room fell silent. Over fifty people turned their heads in unison. They were all rolling their eyes, mouths wide open, with spider heads and eight black legs protruding from within. Countless red eyes stared at him. The scene was grotesque.

Mo Yu pulled the trigger, blasting the nearest Human-Head Spider to pieces.

In the center of the crowd, an old man in a white tuxedo let out a sharp hiss: "Kid! Who are you? Do you know who we serve? How dare you cause trouble here?!"

"Me? I'm here to collect you!" Mo Yu replied.

He emptied the shotgun at lightning speed, blasting the four nearest targets. Then, he unslung the rifle from his back and, with a sinister cackle, began to fire indiscriminately.

The horde of Human-Head Spiders erupted. They did not attack; instead, they severed their own necks. Bodies and heads separated; countless heads fell to the floor, grew eight legs each, and crawled across the ground, gathering toward the center.

Over fifty heads merged together, forming a mass of flesh composed entirely of heads, sprouted eight thin, black spider legs.

[This is a Human-Head Spider Amalgamation. Extremely dangerous. Advise immediate retreat.]

The panel prompt had changed. Rifle bullets hitting the amalgamation only shattered a few heads and spilled green blood, failing to cause effective damage.

The amalgamation moved. Every head opened its mouth to roar, the voices overlapping like a demonic chorus.

"Death!" "I will eat you!" "How dare you cause trouble here!" "Kill, kill, kill!"...

The eight thin spider legs moved rapidly, charging forward with the two-meter-wide mass of flesh, crushing everything in its path like a small truck.

Mo Yu dropped the rifle, pulled out four grenades, and bit off the pins.

Seeing this, the amalgamation let out a sharp shriek. Its eight legs braked hard, but its massive bulk could not stop. The sharp legs scraped against the floor, throwing off a shower of sparks.

"Madman!" "Get away!" "Don't come over here!"...

The amalgamation shrieked in terror, every single head twisted in fear.

Mo Yu advanced instead of retreating, lunging forward while clutching the grenades.

"Fireworks are coming!"

The next second, his figure vanished, leaving only four grenades flying through the air. The amalgamation tried to run, but the grenades erupted in a blinding light that filled its entire field of vision...

6:51 AM.

In a corner outside the villa, three versions of Mo Yu appeared.

Mo Yu stretched. The result of the hunt was that the grenades tore the amalgamation to shreds; the spiders inside the building were wiped out, while many outside had fled.

That was enough.

The security team would arrive soon, and there was no time to mop up the stragglers. He decided to end the hunt, rewinding back to the morning, to the moment he split from his mirror image.

The panel did not update. The rewind would wipe the record; he needed the mirror images to kill the spiders, and only after the time point of the rewind passed and the timeline was fixed would the rewards be settled—which meant he would have to wait until around 4:40 PM.

He currently had two mirror images; this was the point in time when he had immediately released the second mirror after the first. Two mirrors represented the development of two timelines. The mirrors would repeat everything, including rewinding to generate other mirrors.

The first mirror would take Elise to school, go shopping with the maid, and finally return to the villa. The second mirror would engage in "zero-dollar shopping," then head to the Star Hotel; at 10:30 AM, six mirror images would begin the hunt to purge the Kissing Cult.

Now, he canceled the first mirror and took its place, repeating the morning's activities to establish an alibi. If he were to rewind even further to generate more mirrors, the mirrors would split at that point, automatically executing multiple lines; he would then need an extra manual step to cancel the mirror representing the first line.

Watching the second mirror depart, Mo Yu yawned and returned to the villa. As long as he did not interfere, the death of the Human-Head Spider Amalgamation was a foregone conclusion.

He grabbed breakfast in the kitchen, finished it, and went to the garage to wait.

The maid opened the garage door right on time. A dressed-up Elise appeared. They drove off, encountered a blockade by the Kissing Cult, and detoured to school.

Everything went smoothly.

At the school gate, Mo Yu got out of the car to open the door for Elise. Together with the maid, he watched as Elise entered the school.

Just then, the spirit rabbit Elise was holding suddenly turned its head. Its deep red pupils locked onto Mo Yu. The beautiful girl gave a sweet smile and then looked away.

Mo Yu raised an eyebrow. He would ask Alpha later about the origins of such a monster and what special abilities it possessed.

He didn't plan on rewinding again.

He climbed into the car and lay down to sleep, recovering from his fatigue. The maid continued to ignore him, driving the car toward the supermarket.

Meanwhile, inside the manor, Alpha was about to face a test.
