After dinner, Elise and the maid left.

Over the past few days, the two of them had come downstairs during the day to spend time together. At first, they had merely coexisted in silence, but later they began chatting and playing cards, growing much more familiar with each other.

Mo Yu leaned against the balcony railing, considering how he should act tomorrow.

Elise intended to observe him observing himself.

He would first need to shake Elise off, deal with the matter at school, then release a duplicate and accompany Alice while she observed his actions. His only concern was that Elise might suddenly take action. If she interfered with the duplicate, his deception would be exposed.

“Tomorrow will take care of itself.”

He would simply have to take things one step at a time.

Once he knew what would happen tomorrow, he could decide how to respond.

Mo Yu lowered his head and swiped through the interface.

Over the past week, he had killed far too many vampires, unlocking four trophies and obtaining four attribute points.

[Common Vampire] [Total Kills: 1,019] [A Platinum Trophy can be obtained after reaching 10,000 kills.]

[Elite Vampire] [Total Kills: 214] [A Platinum Trophy can be obtained after reaching 1,000 kills.]

He had obtained three trophies from both common and elite vampires. The number of kills required for the final trophies was simply too enormous.

He assigned one attribute point to physical constitution. When it reached 10.3, a notification appeared on the interface: the upper limit had been reached. To continue assigning points, he would need to raise his level of life.

He could only find a way to do that through the demon hunters—to obtain a method of magic cultivation.

According to the research notes of the Eight Sages, magic cultivation was fundamentally a process of transforming the body. Different cultivation methods produced different results and could not coexist. Therefore, he had to be cautious when choosing a cultivation method. Ideally, he should begin with one of the superior methods without any side effects.

That left three attribute points.

He assigned all of them to mental strength, causing his mental faculties to improve dramatically. His memory and logical abilities grew stronger, allowing him to remain energetic and focused for long periods while processing more information at the same time.

Physical constitution was the hardware.

Mental strength was the software.

Take vision, for example. Increasing his physical constitution could strengthen his eyesight, allowing him to see farther and more clearly—the image quality could rise from 360p to 4K. But if his brain could not keep up with the input, he would be unable to capture too many details and could only blur out the unimportant parts.

After his mental strength increased, his cognitive abilities improved tremendously, allowing him to distinguish and process information at a much faster speed. In a complex environment, he could spot what he was looking for at a glance, or pick out a particular sound amid a cacophony of noise.

He closed the interface.

Mo Yu raised his head and gazed at the starry sky. He could see countless details that had been invisible to him before. The once-dim heavens now glittered with incomparable brilliance.

The following morning.

A coffee shop near First Elite Middle School.

The doorbell rang as two customers entered.

One was tall, the other short.

The tall one had a mushroom haircut and wore thick glasses. His plain black clothes were unremarkable, and he gave off a stiff, dull impression.

The shorter one was a boy with a delicate, adorable face. He wore an oversized beret and suspenders.

The two ordered coffee and sat down to wait.

The staff and other customers occasionally cast glances their way, most of them focused on the boy. Cute boys like him were rare enough to make people look twice.

Mo Yu pushed up his glasses.

The lenses were thick enough to press uncomfortably against the bridge of his nose. Through the clear lenses, his gaze settled on the boy across from him.

More precisely, on Elise.

The maid’s disguise technique was astonishingly powerful.

If he had not witnessed it with his own eyes, even he would have had difficulty recognizing that the person sitting across from him was Elise herself. He absolutely had to learn this skill. It was perfectly suited to his abilities and could greatly expand the upper limit of what he was capable of doing.

Elise lowered her head and played with her phone. Around ten o’clock, she stood up and said, “The Outlaw hasn’t appeared. The operation is canceled.”

Mo Yu rose and followed her.

The two walked along the street in the direction opposite the school.

“How did you confirm that, Miss?” Mo Yu asked.

Elise did not answer. Instead, she handed him her phone.

The screen showed surveillance footage from inside the school. The camera could be switched at will, covering the entire campus.

“The school’s surveillance system has a back door,” Elise explained briefly before asking, “Can you see anything?”

Mo Yu shook his head.

He had already told Elise about the details of his “ability.” It required a connection to himself to activate. If danger approached, it would trigger automatically, but the images he saw were extremely blurry. In short, it had many limitations. Elise had brought him along as an early-warning system.

“Where are we going next?” Mo Yu asked.

“Let’s look around the shopping mall. I haven’t been out in a long time.”

The rest of the day was spent idling, and nothing happened. Mo Yu decisively rewound time, returning to the coffee shop just after they had ordered their drinks and sat down. He used going to the restroom as an excuse to leave Elise’s sight.

Elise lowered her head to play with her phone. Suddenly, she raised it and looked toward the restroom, a wary expression appearing on her face.

The presence had vanished.

Although it was daytime, her senses could still penetrate the walls and detect the vital signs of the person inside the restroom.

But just moments ago, that familiar breathing pattern and heartbeat had disappeared.

Beep.

Her phone rang. The sender was Mo Yu, and the message contained only two words:

Run.

Elise’s expression darkened. She stood up, cautiously swept her gaze across the surroundings, then gritted her teeth and rushed into the men’s restroom.

There was no one inside.

It was completely empty, with nothing unusual to be found.

Elise’s gaze locked onto the floor. A pendant lay on the white marble tiles. She could sense her own blood within it. After picking it up and examining it, her expression turned grim. She searched the restroom once more before quickly leaving.

Meanwhile, Mo Yu was in the three-person group’s car, heading toward the hotel designated by Rending Moon.

He had rewound to the morning and used the time he had gone out to buy steamed buns as an excuse to release a duplicate. After disguising itself, the duplicate followed Elise into the coffee shop restroom, where it canceled itself outright. At the same time, Mo Yu sent Elise a message telling her to run.

Given Elise’s vigilance, she would certainly abandon the operation and flee immediately when faced with something unknown.

That way, he could act safely under the identity of the Outlaw, avoiding any interference from Elise. Once the Outlaw’s actions were settled, he could rewind again, take the duplicate’s place, and accompany Elise while she kept watch.

The only problem was the tight schedule.

The rewind point was seven-thirty in the morning. He could act as the Outlaw only until one-thirty in the afternoon, after which he would have to rewind.

By the time he reached the hotel, it was already eight fifty.

He did not have much time to work with.

Following a waiter’s directions, Mo Yu entered a private room on one of the hotel’s upper floors. People were checking identities at the entrance. With the testimony of the three-person group and the invitation, he passed through without difficulty and entered the council chamber.

There were twenty or thirty people inside.

What surprised him was that several familiar faces were among them.

Mary, Monte, Fogg, and another pair of male and female students—all of them were demon hunters who had appeared at the amusement park a few days earlier.

This was the first time Mo Yu had seen Mary since the previous operation.

The girl had changed considerably. It was as though something weighed on her mind. Her expression was resolute, and a vicious aura emanated from her body. The two large boys, Monte and Fogg, looked somewhat troubled as they stood guard on either side of Mary.

Judging by their positions, the three of them were leading this operation.

Mo Yu’s arrival drew everyone’s attention. His clown mask was far too conspicuous. Although some demon hunters wore eccentric outfits, they were in the minority. Once the crowd recognized him as the Outlaw, they began whispering among themselves.

Mary spoke first, her voice carrying an unmistakable air of superiority.

“You’re the Outlaw?”

“That’s me.”

An electronic voice came from behind the mask.

Mo Yu had prepared the voice modulator especially for this occasion, distorting his real voice.

Mary introduced herself. “I’m the person in charge of this operation, the eldest daughter of Rending Moon’s Seventh Seat, the Ripper. My code name is Bloody Mary. During this operation, you will follow my orders. If you perform well, you may stay by my side and work for me.”
