Chapter 61: Taking the Stage in Succession, Saints Emerging One After Another! (Third Update)
Hearing the song, the Lich King Nex's face finally emerged from the shadows, his rigid features reflecting a hint of shock.
High above the dome of heaven, a dazzling beam of light tore through the darkness like a sharp sword—it was a brilliant shooting star!
Its front end burned with blazing flames, glowing with a striking brilliance that dispelled the surrounding darkness and formed a bright sphere of light.
Behind it trailed a long cometary tail, like burning silk, leaving behind a magnificent yet fleeting trajectory.
Once the shooting star vanished, a giant stellar palace shimmering with iridescent light stood proudly across the canopy of heaven!
Everyone looked at a scene identical to the earlier entrance of the Lich King Nex, already numbed by shock.
Without a doubt, another Saint had appeared!
The massive body of the palace was condensed from thirty-five stars, glowing with seven brilliant colors: red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, and violet.
Amidst the flowing light, countless mysterious runes and patterns flickered in and out of view, as if whispering the ancient and profound secrets of the universe.
Suddenly, five red stars pulsed.
The iridescent sanctuary emitted two arrows condensed from pure energy as scorching as flame.
They effortlessly shattered the black fog trapping Grand Duke Roland and the bone giant entangling Yadel.
This rule was named [Break]!
Immediately afterward, another five green stars, resembling vibrant emeralds, pulsed, bringing down a gentle drizzle shimmering with emerald-green fluorescence.
The injured Golden-Winged Guards were bathed in the emerald rain, and their mental and physical injuries rapidly underwent comprehensive repair.
This rule was named [Heal]!
Cohen felt the power of the rules contained within the rain, and his entire being—both his mind and his consumed magical power—was replenished in an instant.
The iridescent light flashed, condensing into a slender and graceful figure.
The woman was dressed in a pristine white robe, her posture light and elegant.
Her face was veiled by a soft glow, obscuring her specific facial contours, but her eyes were as brilliant as stars, exuding a compassion and firmness that reached deep into the soul.
Upon seeing the newcomer, Cohen almost blurted out:
"Good grief, Isabella actually managed to drag this 'big silly girl' over!"
During his bargain with Isabella, the other party had mentioned in passing that one of the Saints sent by the "Pale Wings" was a [Soul Singer], and Cohen had made a guess back then.
Now seeing her in the flesh, it was just as he had expected; the newcomer was none other than the legendary Saint of Song, Caryl St. Mela, from his past life's game.
Caryl had been so famous among players in his past life, not because of her beauty or strength,
but because of her personality, which was as innocent as a blank sheet of paper yet stubbornly, almost foolishly, righteous.
A woman who had lived for hundreds of years still harbored a simplistic and naive sense of justice, firmly believing that the world was strictly black and white, and using that as her code of conduct and the bedrock of her faith.
Self-styled as an agent of justice, she belonged to the absolute Lawful Good alignment, willing to give everything to defend that pure, utopian brand of justice in her heart.
"Big silly girl" was the resentful nickname given to her by hordes of players.
In the past life, quite a few players had wanted to hitch a ride on Caryl's coattails, only to have their despicable desires seen right through by her and be summarily obliterated by justice.
She was not only a headache for enemies of the Evil and Chaotic alignments; Caryl was also an utterly terrible choice as a teammate.
She might very well choose to quit at the critical moment of a battle simply because she suddenly took a dislike to some action of yours.
The saying goes that a gentleman judges deeds rather than intent—who doesn't harbor a few dark, petty thoughts?
Yet Saint Caryl happened to be a Soul Singer, capable of easily seeing through the essential nature of a person's soul.
When facing such a person, Cohen had always kept her at a respectful distance. He never expected Isabella to actually summon her here.
Although he possessed the Child of Mist trait, Cohen felt he would be better off staying far away from her.
He certainly did not believe that his own soul—that of someone wishing to stir up trouble everywhere and ignite war—conformed to Caryl's simplistic and righteous values.
Cohen was far from the only one feeling wary of the newcomer.
The Lich King Nex, whose rule of "Capture" had been effortlessly broken, was staring watchfully at the woman who had appeared on the scene.
As a representative of the Lich clan, unquestioned denizens of the Chaotic Evil alignment, Nex was the prime target Caryl was determined to eradicate.
Normal Saints, out of mutual respect and decorum between supreme powerhouses, generally would not resort to violence the moment they met.
Yet Caryl clearly did not fall into that category; before she had even fully arrived, she had directly hit Nex with a two-fold rule combo to establish dominance.
Upon her appearance, Caryl St. Mela walked straight up to Isabella, affectionately stroked her head, and said softly:
"Don't be so reckless when you go out next time. You got lucky today, but that might not be the case next time."
As she spoke, her gaze shifted without a trace toward Cohen, who was mixed in with the crowd.
Cohen's heart tightened; he immediately activated "Child of Mist" while secretly cursing his luck.
That foolish woman Isabella couldn't possibly have blabbed about everything, could she? He had no desire to be targeted by a Saint.
Caryl quickly averted her gaze, looked toward Queen Eupheine, who had freed herself, and said gently:
"Thank you, Your Excellency, for your helping hand today. What follows is not something Eupheine should participate in.
Frequently invoking a sacred artifact is not beneficial for future cultivation. After all, you are not a true Legend.
Rest assured, I guarantee that everything happening today will not spill over into the royal capital."
Yadel's expression remained cold as she nodded slowly:
"I have a blood feud with the 'Black Tomb'; there is no need for you to feel grateful toward me."
With that, she released her grip on the "Frost of Ice and Sorrow."
Her aura dropped back down to the Peak of Gold, and she cast one deep look at the members of the "Black Tomb" in the distance.
Now that Saints had appeared, although Eupheine's heritage spanning over a millennium left behind means to check and balance Saints,
Yadel had no desire to invoke them lightly unless necessary.
Killing a Gold-tier combatant at least vented a fraction of her anger; the rest could wait for future opportunities!
Finally, this peerless queen—whose talent had left even Saints marveling—returned to Grand Forks amidst the complex gazes of countless people.
Cohen secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Sister Queen had finally left, and he really had been quite worried.
First, he was afraid she would get caught up in the danger of the battle between Saints; second, he was afraid she would pierce through his disguise—he had already tested it previously, and "Child of Mist" was useless against Yadel.
He could not afford to face her as the "Lord of Shadows" just yet.
After Yadel's departure, the Lich King Nex let out a slight sigh and said:
"I never expected Saint Caryl to come in person.
It seems our plan hit a snag. As expected, we were screwed over by those self-righteous idiots in the intelligence department once again!"
Caryl shifted her gaze, sweeping her eyes across the surroundings, and said slowly:
"Emerald Lake has lovely scenery; it's a very suitable place to bury a king of the Lich race."
Nex let out a few spine-chilling chuckles:
"Just you? You merely possess one more rule-star-chain than I do, and you think you can kill me..."
"What about with the addition of me!"
A booming voice shook the heavens, directly cutting off Nex's words.
Everyone looked toward the source of the voice, only to find that the sound was actually coming from deep underground!
Immediately afterward, a terrifying spectacle unfolded before everyone's eyes.
The earth not far away suddenly erupted into a deafening roar, the entire ground seemingly stirred by an invisible giant hand, resembling a violent primordial beast waking from chaos.
The earth heaved and mountains trembled; the undulations of the ground mirrored a surging ocean wave, and countless landscapes began to transform in ways incomprehensible to the onlookers, as if monumental geographical changes were happening right before their eyes—
Mountains turned into swamps, swamps into grasslands, grasslands into forests, forests into deserts, and deserts into polar wastes...
Finally, a figure emerged from the shifting terrain. His tall, upright frame was wrapped in a crude robe made of animal skin, adorned with scattered green leaves and bizarre runes.
His face seemed veiled in shadow, revealing only a resolute outline and hair like wild vines.
He grasped an ancient, decaying branch, his footsteps falling steadily upon the earth as every step resonated with the pulse of the land!
With a deafening crash, the dome of heaven was torn apart once more, and a starlight sanctuary constructed from fifty dark-gray stars barreled in aggressively!
Lich King Nex's heart, which had not beaten for centuries, twitched faintly—
A Grand Druid Archmage!
A Grand Druid Archmage from the Earth Fellowship!
Dammit, how did they lure this savage over?
Weren't there supposed to be at most three Legends and one semi-artifact?
We've been shafted by those bastards in the intelligence department!
When I get back, I'm definitely going to wreck their operation!
Can't their intelligence gathering be even slightly reliable?!
Every day they take the highest funding, and what kind of garbage intelligence do they produce?!
They're going to get this Lich killed!
The Grand Druid Archmage paid no heed to the Lich King Nex, instead casting his gaze toward the distant void, his voice deep and solemn:
"Where is that fallen one? Why are you still hiding on the sidelines?
Come out and show your face. It has been over a century since so many Saints manifested together on the continent!
I can already sense that today... a Saint is bound to fall!"
Hearing the Grand Druid Archmage's words, the Lich King Nex's complexion finally changed completely.
He now realized that today's plan to ambush the Daughter of Golden Wings was not simply a matter of a minor flaw in the execution.
On the contrary, this was a thoroughly orchestrated trap targeting their "Black Tomb"!
Accompanied by the Grand Druid Archmage's voice, a heavy and gentle sigh echoed from afar:
"Thanks to Your Excellency the Archmage's summons, I am deeply honored.
It's rare for old friends not to have met in centuries; needless bloodshed tends to hurt feelings.
Why don't the two of our factions simply call a truce today? What do you say?"
