Chapter Fifteen: No Matter What You Have Done to Me, I Will Forgive You

In the corridor of the teaching building, Yuda Kaye, Fu Jiang, and Kaya walked side by side. When they reached the stairs, Fu Jiang suddenly spoke up.
“Kawa-Mata, you go back to the classroom first.”
“Huh?”
Kaya looked at Fu Jiang, who had abruptly stopped and was holding Yuda Kaye’s wrist to keep him still. A flicker of hesitation crossed her face.
“I... I’d rather wait...”
“I said go back first!”
Fu Jiang’s sudden outburst startled Kaya and left Yuda Kaye bewildered.
Casting a glance at Yuda Kaye and seeing Fu Jiang’s face twisted with anger, Kaya nodded timidly, bowed to both of them, and quickly walked away.
“You didn’t have to shout…”
“What exactly is your relationship with her?”
Bang!
Before Yuda Kaye could finish speaking, Fu Jiang angrily grabbed him and shoved him against the wall. The sharp pain on his back made him frown.
Looking at Fu Jiang’s angry expression, Yuda Kaye realized she was jealous and hurried to explain.
“We’ve only met twice, but I couldn’t just ignore her being bullied, could I?”
Fu Jiang sneered coldly at the explanation.
“Hah? You expect me to believe that? If you were really so righteous, why did you turn a blind eye to those being bullied back in middle school?”
...
Having grown up together, they knew each other well enough for this excuse to be clearly unconvincing to Fu Jiang. Yet Yuda Kaye couldn’t bring himself to reveal the truth—he couldn’t exactly tell her that after Kaya’s death, she became a terrifying vengeful spirit who might destroy not only this island nation but possibly the entire world.
His silence only unsettled Fu Jiang more. She grabbed his collar once again and pushed hard against his chest.
“Yuda Kaye, why did you bring her home? And why did you fight for her?”
Though her voice was quieter, the anger and hysteria beneath it made Yuda Kaye’s heart tremble.
Meeting her slightly reddened gaze, Yuda Kaye stared at her for a moment, took her delicate hand in his, then sighed heavily.
“Let’s go to the rooftop. I’ll tell you everything.”
Hearing this, Fu Jiang looked deeply into Yuda Kaye’s eyes, then slowly released her grip, turned, and headed up the stairs to the rooftop.
Yuda Kaye followed closely behind. The sun shone brightly with a gentle breeze, and some remnants of trash left by students lingered in the corners.
Fu Jiang crossed her arms and stood by the rooftop’s fence, while Yuda Kaye hesitated briefly before standing beside her.
“You can explain now.”
With a cold tone, Fu Jiang spoke, and after a moment of silence, Yuda Kaye softly began.

“You’ve always been curious about why I understand your abilities so well and why I’m unaffected by them, right?”
“Although I’m not entirely sure about the latter, I’ll tell you as much as I can about the first.”
Fu Jiang turned to him with a frown.
“As much as you can? What does that mean?”
Yuda Kaye didn’t dwell on that question but proceeded to reveal his secret.
“Simply put, I’m a traveler with memories from a past life. When we first met, my knowledge of you was based entirely on those memories.”
Fu Jiang was momentarily stunned, thinking what an absurd excuse this was—had he started lying to avoid explaining?
She chuckled coldly at the thought.
“Fine, if you don’t want to explain, then I’ll just...”
Before she could finish, seeing the unwavering seriousness in Yuda Kaye’s eyes, Fu Jiang suddenly froze.
“You really are...”
Before she could gather her thoughts, Yuda Kaye recited a list of Chinese dishes in fluent Mandarin.
Fu Jiang, caught off guard by the sudden food recitation, blinked repeatedly. Yuda Kaye plopped down beside her.
“Aren’t you curious why I cook so many Chinese dishes, and why they taste almost as good as those in Chinatown? That’s why.”
Looking down at him, Fu Jiang blinked again, still processing this revelation. Slowly, she sat down on the rooftop floor beside him.
“A traveler? What’s that? Isn’t that just reincarnation?”
Fu Jiang’s confused question left Yuda Kaye momentarily speechless.
“Hmm... I suppose so?”
He’d forgotten that the concept of ‘time travel’ didn’t exist in the twentieth century.
In just a few words, Yuda Kaye had revealed his deepest secret—the very reason Fu Jiang had been so curious but hesitant to ask directly.
“Does your grandmother know?”
Yuda Kaye shook his head, then hesitated.
“She doesn’t know, but I think she’s guessed something...”
“Oh?”
Yuda Kaye didn’t answer, recalling the meaningful words the old lady had spoken before passing.
“Since you’ve come to this world, even if you must face it alone, you have to live well...”
Listening to Yuda Kaye’s low voice recounting the grandmother’s final words, Fu Jiang’s heart ached. She gently reached out and took his hand.
“You’re not truly alone…”
“Yeah...”
For a while, a calm and peaceful atmosphere settled between them. The breeze whispered softly, and the comforting feeling made Yuda Kaye’s drowsiness deepen.

“So, what exactly is your relationship with Kaya?”
...
Fu Jiang’s sudden question made Yuda Kaye whip his head around. Seeing her serious, determined expression—refusing to give up until she got an answer—his chest tightened.
Such a petty woman...
He briefly summarized Kaya’s situation for Fu Jiang, especially noting the moment when Kaya, as a vengeful spirit, could slip under blankets to kill. At this, Fu Jiang involuntarily shuddered.
“A malevolent ghost? One that might even destroy the world? Is that for real?!”
“I wish it weren’t true, but considering your circumstances, I can’t risk assuming this Kaya is the same one I knew.”
Brushing his wind-tousled hair behind his ear, Fu Jiang exhaled sharply.
“If she’s that dangerous, why don’t we just move? If not within the country, then abroad!”
...
It was too late. More importantly, Yuda Kaye had already become Junpei Kobayashi…
Seeing Yuda Kaye fall silent, Fu Jiang angrily slapped his shoulder.
“Why do you tell me all this nonsense? It’s so annoying!”
“... Didn’t you keep chasing me, asking why I fought for Kaya?”
“...”
“Shut up!”
Irritated, she pinched Yuda Kaye and sat cross-legged on the floor with her arms folded.
But moments later, thinking about how he had just shared his greatest secret with her, a surge of warmth and happiness uncontrollably welled up inside her.
“Hey, I have a question for you now.”
“Hm?”
“Have you always kept your distance from me because you feared you’d end up like those other men one day?”
“Yeah... Especially after you infused your cells and pulled me back from the brink of death, I realize now I can’t fully...”
Upon receiving his affirmative response, Fu Jiang blinked rapidly.
Before Yuda Kaye could react, she cupped his face and leaned in.
The softness of her touch and unabashed advance flustered him.
After a long moment, satisfied, Fu Jiang hummed softly.
“Don’t worry, no matter what you do to me, I’ll always forgive you~!”
