35. Slaying the Phantom
Originally, there were no ghosts on Blue Star.
Once upon a time, a pilot dropped a "Little Boy" on Japan, and that pilot lived to be 92 years old, dying of natural causes. This served as ironclad proof that there were no ghosts on Blue Star.
But now, with the resurgence of psionic energy, some sinister things have begun to emerge once again.
Furthermore, the Skrulls have utilized "psionic springs" to create numerous monsters. Creatures like the kaiju from *Ultraman* and the terrifying deep-sea beasts from *Pacific Rim* have started appearing on Blue Star.
Of course, these massive organisms would only begin to appear in succession after a few months.
At the current stage, the Skrulls could only manufacture a batch of ghosts to run rampant through the human world of Blue Star.
Local ghosts, combined with the manufactured foreign—no, extraterrestrial—ghosts, conspired together, gradually forming the primary threat to humanity on Blue Star for the first three months.
What Su Yu was doing now was trying his best to track down and eliminate some of these ghosts. This was not only for the sake of humanity but also for his own benefit, as he could obtain extra rewards after purging them.
After more than an hour of diligent searching, a piece of news finally caught Su Yu's attention:
"Donghai University is organizing a volunteer teaching team for Hope Elementary School..."
...
June 2nd, 8:00 AM.
Su Yu drove to the entrance of a supermarket near Donghai University.
He had come specifically for the news about the "volunteer teaching trip to the countryside."
He remembered that in his previous life, the school had organized this volunteer trip, but in the end, all thirty-plus students on the trip and hundreds of teachers and pupils at Hope Elementary School had died mysteriously!
The incident caused a massive uproar. The government dispatched a large number of police officers to investigate, but they found nothing—they couldn't even determine the cause of death.
It wasn't until half a year after the event that the truth finally surfaced. An expert panel concluded that ghosts were behind it, and the person possessed by the ghost was none other than the team leader, a female teacher named Fang Min.
Donghai University was Su Yu's alma mater, so he had a very deep impression of this tragedy. Coming here this time was to prevent it from happening again.
...
Walking into the supermarket, Su Yu stopped in front of a shelf in the toy section.
This shelf was stocked with toys like Ultraman masks, Ultraman models, and Ultraman transformation devices.
Seeing an Ultraman mask, Su Yu’s heart stirred. He reached out, pretending to grab the mask.
However, his hand did not touch the mask; instead, he pressed it gently against the wall. A massive surge of electric current flowed from his palm into the wall, heading toward the surveillance camera overhead.
*Crack!*
The camera was struck by the powerful current and short-circuited immediately.
Then, Su Yu tucked the Ultraman mask into his jacket and walked briskly out of the supermarket. As he left, he made sure to destroy the supermarket’s other surveillance cameras to prevent anyone from tracing his movements.
Once he reached the street outside the supermarket, Su Yu, unsure of where the street cameras were, activated [Invisibility] and moved forward rapidly.
Along the way, Su Yu used [Blink] in conjunction with [Invisibility] to avoid cameras, and used electrical magic to destroy any he couldn't bypass, performing with professional efficiency. This level of professionalism was something he had honed from his many infiltrations into Skrull bases; infiltrating a university was merely a minor task.
Su Yu moved forward in stealth.
After checking the teacher duty schedule in the administrative building, he arrived at Classroom 301 in the Third Teaching Building and found the team leader from the news—Fang Min.
Fang Min was a young teacher who looked to be twenty-eight or twenty-nine. Dressed in white, she was currently lecturing the students below the podium.
Standing outside the classroom door, Su Yu could sense the thick, pungent scent of a ghost even from several meters away.
"Yes, that's her! There's no mistake!"
Su Yu put the Ultraman mask on his head and delivered a front kick, causing the classroom door to burst open with a loud crash.
Teacher Fang Min on the podium was startled. She had been lecturing when a young man suddenly kicked the door open and stormed in. Seeing the mask the young man was wearing, she realized something was wrong.
Teacher Fang Min took two steps back and shouted, "This student, what do you think you're doing?!"
Su Yu didn't answer.
He strode forward, and before the teacher could react, he slapped her hard across the face, simultaneously channeling lightning magic through his palm into the teacher's head to exorcise the ghost.
Teacher Fang Min took the solid slap, but at the same time, an icy wind whipped through the classroom!
*Whoosh—whoosh—*
A pitch-black, amorphous mass leaped out of the teacher's head and flew rapidly out the window.
[Soul-Eater Ghost Lv9]
This was actually a Level 9 ghost?!
Fortunately, although this ghost was higher in level than Su Yu, it was still a Tier 0 ghost and posed no major threat to him.
Su Yu pretended to reach under the podium, manifesting the [Village Chief's Staff] into his left hand, and then blinked out the window after the Soul-Eater Ghost.
"Lok'Tar Ogar! Taste my staff!"
In mid-air, Su Yu used the [Village Chief's Staff] to amplify a [Lightning Bolt] spell, striking the Soul-Eater Ghost’s body with the staff.
*Zzz—zzz—*
Dense black mist poured out of the ghost's body. It struggled, its form trembling violently, as if begging Su Yu for mercy.
Su Yu ignored it. As the first [Lightning Bolt] ended, a second followed immediately.
Under the impact of two consecutive [Lightning Bolts], the core of the Soul-Eater Ghost shattered completely, dissolving into thick black fog.
Su Yu had jumped from the third floor, and after killing the ghost, he timed his landing and released [Blink].
*Zip!*
Su Yu stood steadily on the ground.
...
By now, the students below the podium were completely stunned.
What just happened?
First, a man in an Ultraman mask rushed in and slapped their teacher. Then, this man pulled a wooden stick from under the podium, rushed to the window by the desk, and jumped straight out...
Was the world bugging out, or were they losing their minds?
After a brief silence, the students rushed to the window, and many had already started dialing emergency services.
When they looked out the window, they saw foul-smelling black mist drifting in the air. As for the masked weirdo, he didn't seem to have been injured by the fall; instead, he was sitting cross-legged on the ground, looking as if he were... meditating?
The students were nearly driven mad.
Something was definitely wrong with the world! It had to be!
