Chapter 15: The Landscape in the Book

As Qin Lang recited the attributes, Danbao felt as if he were listening to an incomprehensible scripture, gradually growing more confused until his eyes spiraled.
“Gulu~ (๑﹏๑)”
“Don’t rush, take your time,” Qin Lang said sympathetically, gently stroking Danbao.
At first, trying to grasp these attributes and their countering relationships was indeed difficult; even Qin Lang himself was reading directly from the brochure.
Only through subsequent interactions with various attribute-based Food Spirits and practical application could one truly master these countering dynamics.
Of course, if one still couldn’t remember later, carrying a reference chart of attribute counters was also acceptable.
“Let’s pause on attributes for now and move on to other things,” Qin Lang said, pointing to the fifth and sixth lines of the scan results.
Danbao nodded gratefully, as if relieved.
If they continued with attributes, he would surely faint!
“These two lines show the skills you currently possess,” Qin Lang said, pausing slightly. “Skills are divided into Culinary Skills and Combat Skills.”
“Culinary Skills are special abilities Food Spirits use to assist the Spirit Chef in cooking. Each Food Spirit has exactly one unique skill, mutually exclusive.”
“Different Food Spirits born from the same Spirit Chef will not have overlapping Culinary Skills.”
“The number of Culinary Skills a Food Spirit has cannot increase, but they can be enhanced. Each time the star rating rises by one, the Culinary Skill can be strengthened once.”
Qin Lang’s eyes gleamed as he spoke.
After understanding Food Spirits, this was what he looked forward to most.
“Combat Skills are abilities that allow Food Spirits to wield extraordinary power in battle, divided into Awakened Combat Skills and Self-learned Combat Skills.”
“A Food Spirit starts with one Awakened Combat Skill. With each star rating increase, it gains an additional Awakened Combat Skill, up to a maximum of ten.”
“Besides that, Food Spirits can learn more Combat Skills through study. These are called Self-learned Combat Skills and cannot be detected by scanning devices, making them the trump cards in battles.”
“Gulu~”
Danbao nodded, half understanding.
“In addition, Combat Skills are categorized as either intrinsic or non-intrinsic,” Qin Lang glanced at the brochure and read aloud, “Combat Skills have elemental attributes. Food Spirits can awaken and learn Combat Skills outside their own elemental type.”
“Combat Skills that match the Food Spirit’s own attribute are called intrinsic skills and receive certain enhancements when used.”
“However, learning some non-intrinsic skills also has advantages — it broadens the Food Spirit’s elemental offensive range.”
“For example, if you face an Earth-type Food Spirit and its elemental attribute counters yours, using Earth-type Combat Skills against you deals double damage. But if you use Fire-type Combat Skills against it, you can only deal normal damage, which is a disadvantage.”
“If you happen to learn a Wood-type Combat Skill that counters Earth, you can use that skill to deal double damage…”

Qin Lang’s words suddenly cut off as he hurriedly grabbed Danbao, who once again shook with spiraling eyes.
“Danbao!”
“Pull yourself together!”
“I won’t talk about attributes anymore! Really, I won’t!”
“Gulu~ (*꒦ິ﹏꒦ີ)”
After coaxing Danbao back to composure, Qin Lang cleared his throat. “Now, let’s look at your Culinary and Combat Skills.”
Although these skills were innate to Danbao at birth, he was still quite naive and some skills’ effects weren’t obvious on the surface.
“There’s no skill description in the brochure, but the Spirit Chef Association has a Food Spirit Skill Compendium where most Culinary and Combat Skills can be found,” Qin Lang explained, pulling out his phone to check the official website.
Soon, he found the description for Danbao’s Culinary Skill.
[Freshness Restored (0 stars): Restores a designated ingredient to its freshest state. Cooldown: 24 hours.]
Restore an ingredient to its original freshest state?!
Qin Lang’s mouth formed a perfect ‘O’ in astonishment.
Judging by the name alone, he had thought it was merely a preservation skill.
If the description was accurate, even ingredients that were no longer fresh or had spoiled could be returned to their peak freshness by Danbao.
For a chef, this was nothing short of a divine skill!
Although it could only be used once a day and on one type of ingredient at a time, this was just the beginning.
As Danbao’s star rating increased, the Culinary Skill would become even more powerful!
Next, Qin Lang found the Combat Skill description for [Breath of Flames].
[Breath of Flames (Non-intrinsic): Power 40. Emits scorching flames to attack the target. Upon hit, has a 50% chance to inflict [Burn] for 10 seconds.]
[Breath of Flames (Intrinsic): Power 50. Emits scorching flames to attack the target. Upon hit, guaranteed to inflict [Burn] for 10 seconds.]
Combat Skill power is the measure of a skill’s strength and allows for accurate comparisons of damage dealt between skills under equal conditions.
Comparing intrinsic and non-intrinsic versions, the power increases by 10 points.
As for the additional [Burn] effect...
Qin Lang stroked his chin and searched for [Burn].
[Burn: Abnormal status. Fire-type Combat Skills deal double damage to targets afflicted with this status.]

Qin Lang: “!!!”
Guaranteed to inflict [Burn] on hit, and [Burn] doubles the damage of fire-type skills...
Danbao’s Combat Skill seemed remarkably formidable!
Though Danbao didn’t fully grasp the quality of the Combat Skill, he could clearly sense Qin Lang’s excitement and smiled happily in response.
“Gulu! (≧‿≦)”
He then nuzzled Qin Lang’s hand, signaling for him to continue explaining the last line of information.
“This is Experience Points,” Qin Lang smiled. “Every Food Spirit starts with zero experience. It gradually increases as they taste various delicacies and go through different experiences, with a maximum of 100 points.”
“Your experience increased from zero to one, probably because you ate Grandma Liu’s meal and those snacks last night,” Qin Lang analyzed. “Initially, gaining experience is easier, but it slows down over time.”
“The more you experience, the less novelty remains.”
“So it gets harder as you go.”
“But that’s a minor issue,” Qin Lang said confidently.
He might lack other things, but he had a vast repertoire of recipes; even feeding Danbao a different dish every day of the year wouldn’t be a problem.
That trivial experience point system was completely manageable.
“Huh? We’re here.”
Qin Lang stopped, looking at the stone engraving that read “Gardenia Park.”
Casually chatting with his spirit companion, they had arrived at their destination.
The thought of unraveling the mystery of the Traveler’s Tome filled Qin Lang’s heart with indescribable excitement. Holding Danbao, he quickened his pace under the cover of night into the park.
Gardenia Park was not large. After circling it once, Qin Lang quickly found his target.
Approaching the dove stone sculpture step by step, he carefully examined it in the dim light before grinning broadly.
He had guessed correctly.
After decades of weathering, the dove sculpture had transformed from its appearance in old photographs to match the image in the Traveler’s Tome.
Along with the identical flower beds surrounding it...
This was the exact scenery depicted on the first page of the Traveler’s Tome!
