Chapter 50: Teasing!
"Whoosh—whoosh~"
Xiuxing whistled casually while stroking the [Black Demonic Hound] inside the cage, which kept its head lowered as it ate dog food.
The Black Demonic Hound... keeping it around was likely part of Deer Academy's breeding program to produce the [Great Demonic Hound].
[Great Demonic Hound]: Much like ordinary Black Demonic Hounds, the Great Demonic Hound resembles a large, wolf-like dog with long, dense, pitch-black fur.
Aside from supernatural strength and speed, they also possess the ability to move silently, appearing and disappearing when not directly observed. Their eyes are typically red or golden, glowing brightly in the dark when agitated.
The difference between the [Great Demonic Hound] and the [Black Demonic Hound] lies in the fact that despite their wolf-like traits, their behavior is unmistakably dog-like. They are intelligent, affectionate, and highly trainable.
Above all, they are fiercely loyal.
Therefore, what Deer Academy currently lacked was a creature capable of mating with the [Black Demonic Hound].
Three Portlands was expected to pass through the Britannia Strait soon, at which point they would hover over the Faran Realm. Xiuxing knew that a terrifying supernatural disaster was currently unfolding in Gévaudan, located within Faran's Guedoc-Roussillon region.
In the [Gévaudan] region, a three-year-long "wolf plague" was taking place, causing massive civilian casualties and fatalities.
The local Faran supernatural organization, the [Riding Guard], had dispatched their most elite supernatural unit—the [Dragoons]—to suppress the threat.
These battle-hardened [Dragoons] had made little progress because they lacked experience in hunting wolf packs, and the waters in the [Gévaudan] region ran far deeper than they appeared on the surface.
This three-year supernatural disaster would later become known as the Beast of Gévaudan incident.
The supernatural factions involved in the Beast of Gévaudan incident included: the [Sin City Phantoms], the [Church of the Broken Flesh], the [Divar-Gear Orthodox Church], the [Wilson Wildlife Response Team], [Deer Academy], the [Faran Riding Guard]... and the Heavenly Lineage.
The waters there were deep enough to drown anyone.
In his past life, the Beast of Gévaudan incident was listed by the [Wandmaker Gazette] as one of the fourteen most terrifying monstrous disasters in Terra. It involved multiple supernatural factions and had an extremely wide impact.
In his past life, Xiuxing did not know why Deer Academy had gotten involved, but now he knew—Deer Academy had its sights set on the [Beast of Gévaudan].
After all...
Xiuxing slowly stood up. On the back of his right hand, a vortex-shaped Seal of Yan appeared, radiating intense heat. A wolf head formed of black smoke emerged on his hand.
Snap—
Xiuxing crushed the black wolf head, a flash of piercing coldness passing through his golden eyes.
Mind-corrosion seed...
How could a rebellious and untamed beast easily lower its head?
As expected, a dog that understood loyalty was much easier to control.
By this time, the [Black Demonic Hound] had sensed something. It lifted its head and bared its teeth at Xiuxing once more, losing any trace of its previous docility. This time, the aura emanating from it was far more frantic.
"Hey, I'll be your feeder for the next week, and I'll slowly play along with all your little tricks." A sarcastic smile crept onto Xiuxing's face.
Roar————
"Oh, you should be grateful to me. I'm guessing no one at Deer Academy thought anyone would take this mission. You're a supernatural entity, so a year or two without food probably won't kill you."
"However—"
Xiuxing laughed out loud at the Black Demonic Hound, which was roaring frantically on the other side of the cage:
"With your body pinned down by four [Reality-Distorting Reality Anchors], you must feel a constant, unyielding sense of hunger, right?
So, when you were gnawing on that dog food just now like a dog, did you feel an unprecedented sense of satisfaction?
Right, dog~gy~?"
A smile of extreme mockery rested on the golden-haired youth's face.
Clang—
The dog food bowl in front of the Black Demonic Hound was crushed to pieces by its jaws. It threw itself recklessly against the red barrier, not even caring that the burning metal scorched its skin. Pressing its snout against the gaps in the bars, it roared madly at Xiuxing.
Meanwhile, Xiuxing whistled a dog-taunting tune and strolled leisurely toward the exit. At that moment, the only sound left in the entire room was the frantic, frenzied roaring of the Black Demonic Hound.
[First-day feeding mission completed!]
As Xiuxing stepped out of Room 0-66, a pop-up window appeared.
As expected, a three-star mission wasn't so easy to take on.
The main point of today's meeting was to provoke it into a frenzy so it wouldn't have time to spread meme pollution. If I had stayed any longer, I probably would have fallen victim to it again.
And since it played nice the first time and ate the dog food I gave it, if I want it to cooperate next time...
Xiuxing rubbed his chin in thought.
I definitely have to shove some food down the Black Demonic Hound's throat every single day this week.
Deer Academy is truly ruthless. Xiuxing guessed that they intended for this single week's worth of meals to sustain the Black Demonic Hound for the next two or three years.
What's that? You ask what the Black Demonic Hound would eat if Xiuxing hadn't accepted the mission?
Naturally, it would just starve. A year or two without food wouldn't kill a dog anyway.
What method should I use to taunt it next time...? A dog won't be easily provoked by the exact same trick a second time.
Should I tell it that it's being used as a stud dog?
I feel like if I do that, it might go even crazier, and that topic should be able to constantly trigger it.
Xiuxing walked outward while pondering.
......
Deer Academy - Anderson Dormitory
In front of Room 404.
[Sir, you have express deliveries.]
[There are two items in total. Both are sender-labeled as Mr. Mugi, and the packages have been placed in the storage locker.]
When Xiuxing returned from E Wing to his dorm room and reached out to push the door open, Jarvis popped up.
Oh ho, the items have arrived.
Xiuxing turned his gaze toward the No. 404 storage locker. He opened it to find two packaged items, one large and one small, resting inside.
————Deposited in Room 404, Anderson Dormitory, Deer Academy————
Sender: Your dear friend - Mugi
Recipient: Hugh Abraham
Note: The things you wanted have been delivered {smiley face}
--------------------------------------------------
Xiuxing opened the door and walked inside carrying the items.
Once inside, he casually placed the two packages on the coffee table, hung his Deer Academy robe on the coat rack, took a quick shower in the washroom, changed his clothes, and only then returned to the coffee table.
Xiuxing first used a utility knife to slice open the packaging of the large parcel. Inside was an exquisite box. He opened the lid.
A sleek, understated black trench coat was neatly folded inside, with a postcard resting on top of it.
[Constantine Exorcism Trench Coat]
[Functions: Dimensional Pocket (fifteen cubic meters of space), Water and Fire Resistance (Minor), Dust-Repellent Runes, Sturdy Protection (Minor)]
[Sir, wearing this means you are standing at the cutting edge of fashion!]
Xiuxing contentedly stroked the smooth surface of the trench coat, and then turned his attention to the second item—<The Wheel of Heavenly Locks>.
