Yu Wei kicked out with all his might, and his own uncle became a graceful arc soaring through the air.

Of course, it only looked terrifying. Yu Wei had been careful with the force behind his kick. Besides, his uncle had improved his physique by eating low-grade spirit-beast meat. At most, the kick would make him suffer a little; it would not truly injure him.

“Uncle, don’t blame me.”

“You just had to offend Sister Yan. At this point, forget you—even my own father wouldn’t be able to help!”

“Sister Yan told me to throw you out. How could I dare disobey?”

Yu Wei muttered weakly.

The five-person group cleared the villagers away and formed a wall of people along both dirt roads on either side of Yu Yan’s house. If those villagers refused to take the hint, they would throw out as many as came, as many times as necessary. For the sake of their fellow villagers, they were unwilling to deal them any truly heavy blows.

Still, after being thrown out once, anyone would need to lie on the ground for at least five minutes before recovering.

If they were thrown out three or five times, they probably would not be able to do anything for the rest of the day.

The last one remaining was Yu Yongde. He looked at the villagers sprawled across the ground in the distance, including the village chief and several village officials. Then he looked at his eldest daughter, whose face was utterly indifferent, as though she had done nothing at all. He did not dare mention the “devoured” spirit-beast meat again.

In the end, he turned around dejectedly and went home.

Before leaving, however, Yu Yongde still summoned his courage.

“Yan’er, your Aunt Zhao was thrown out with the others. What do you think we should do?”

Yu Yan rolled her eyes. “She’ll come home once she’s able to crawl back. Do you expect me to go fetch her?”

“No, no!”

Yu Yongde hurriedly waved his hands. “How would I dare trouble you? As long as you don’t make things difficult for your Aunt Zhao, that’s enough.”

Ah, he had known it all along—he had raised this daughter for nothing!

Not only Yu Yan, but the twins Yu Lei and Yu Wan had also been raised for nothing. They had just stood by and watched someone bully their own father. What meaning was there in being a father like this?

Sighing repeatedly, Yu Yongde walked away with his hands clasped behind his back.

The twins looked grim.

For a while, they could not accept that their own father was such a selfish, self-serving, incompetent, and cowardly man.

Yu Yan, however, felt nothing.

After all these years, she had long known what kind of person her father was and no longer held any expectations of him. Without sparing the departing Yu Yongde even a glance, she took Yun Duo’er by the hand and walked toward the villagers lying scattered across the ground.

Several villagers had almost recovered and were just preparing to get up. But the moment they saw the female demon coming toward them, they hurriedly lay back down and began groaning, “Ow, ow, ow.”

Yu Yan fell silent for a moment, then cleared her throat.

“Stop pretending.”

Could she not tell exactly how much force her people had used?

Those people had only been numb for a brief moment when they were first thrown out. Continuing to lie there now was simply too obvious.

“I have something to discuss with you. It concerns the distribution of spirit-beast meat. If you don’t want to listen, leave now.”

“But if you do want to hear it, at least sit up. Lying on the ground…”

Yu Yan did not even have time to finish the sentence before everyone sprawled across the ground sat upright in perfect unison.

Pair after pair of eyes gazed at her, blazing with eagerness and expectation.

This truly was a case of finding light after being lost in darkness.

They had thought Yu Yan would never distribute any more spirit-beast meat to them.

Who would have imagined that this female demon had suddenly taken leave of her senses—no, no, that was not right. She had suddenly become magnanimous.

Was she planning to give them a few more pieces?

It was, after all, fifth-rank spirit-beast meat. Eating just one piece could grant them the same supernatural abilities that Yu Wei and the others possessed.

Naturally, they wanted it!

“Ahem.”

This was the first time in her life that Yu Yan had been watched by so many eyes, and she felt somewhat uncomfortable. Fortunately, she quickly adjusted.

“Judging by your reactions, it seems everyone wants the spirit-beast meat in my possession. In that case, you had better listen carefully to what I am about to say.”

The villagers pricked up their ears, afraid they might miss some crucial detail.

“You can have spirit-beast meat, but you must follow my rules.”

“What you did before—trying to seize it by force—is absolutely unacceptable.”

“After all, I was the one who hunted that fifth-rank spirit beast. Besides, the dungeon is right at the village entrance. Why don’t you go and kill a fifth-rank dungeon monster yourselves?”

Yu Yan’s words made the villagers lower their heads in shame.

They knew perfectly well that they were too weak to kill a fifth-rank dungeon monster.

Forget fifth-rank monsters—even if they encountered a first-rank one, they would probably end up in its stomach if they ran just a little too slowly. Otherwise, why would they have shamelessly fought with a junior like Yu Yan over a few supplies?

“I believe everyone understands the reasoning, so I won’t waste any more time explaining.”

“Let’s get straight to the point.”

“There is an S-rank dungeon and a double-S-rank dungeon blocking our way out of Fenghe Village. I believe everyone is well aware of that. As the two dungeons continue to expand, if we cannot open an entirely new road out of Fenghe Village, then we will have no choice but to die!”

The fear buried deep in every villager’s heart was stirred by Yu Yan’s words.

The villagers began whispering among themselves, occasionally looking up at Yu Yan.

At last, Village Chief Yu Yuanhua stepped forward from the crowd.

“Yan’er, just tell us what you have in mind. We’ll listen to you.”

“I don’t have any particularly good ideas.”

Yu Yan pondered for a moment before speaking earnestly.

“But I think that even if we opened an entirely new road through the rear mountains or somewhere else and escaped Fenghe Village, what would happen if we encountered another S-rank, double-S-rank, or even triple-S-rank dungeon halfway there?”

“Would we abandon the road we had already opened and go searching for yet another route?”

“That would merely be beginning the cycle all over again. No one can guarantee that we would succeed the next time. Perhaps another dungeon above S-rank would be waiting for us ahead. And even if it were not an S-rank dungeon or higher, what difference would an A-rank dungeon make to you?”

“We would still be surrounded by high-level dungeon monsters beyond our ability to defeat, and we would still die without even a grave.”

“…Yes. Are we really meant to wait here for death?”

“I refuse to accept it. My son is only two years old.”

“I refuse to accept it either. I may not have a son, but I still want to find a wife!”

A sorrowful atmosphere descended over the crowd.

Seeing that their emotions had been stirred sufficiently, Yu Yan raised her voice.

“Since either path leads to death, why don’t we fight for a chance to survive? If the world outside the dungeons refuses to let us live, then what about inside one?”

“As long as we are careful, cautious, and capable enough, we can move Fenghe Village into one of the dungeons.”

“For example, a D-rank or even C-rank dungeon where we have the ability to establish a base.”

“Once we are inside a dungeon, even if the dungeon worlds eventually merge with one another, their vast territories will still provide us with protection.”

“The monsters in those high-level dungeons possess an intense sense of territory.”

“When they go out to hunt for food, they generally do not stray too far from their lairs. That would give us a measure of safety.”

“If that’s the case…”

A villager timidly offered his opinion.

“Then why don’t we simply find an E-rank or even F-rank dungeon and establish our base there? D-rank and C-rank dungeons are still far too dangerous for us!”

“Exactly! F-rank dungeons are obviously the safest.”

Once one person had spoken up and everyone saw that Yu Yan was not angry at him for expressing a different opinion, the villagers’ courage increased.

One after another, they began voicing their thoughts.
